MaddieR523 I don't get it why they don't just leave out the egg in the veggie patty. :-( Then it would be suitable for both vegetarians and vegans... I mean this would also be good for them, right?

Re: types of veggie patty.

Just to clarify. There are two types of veggie patty sold in the US. One has a more "carroty" appearance which Subway workers confirm has cheese in it and the other has visible black beans and looks darker, which subway personnel have confirmed are vegan. They are all hidden by default at some places. You need to go to several stores and ask to get the type you want. In some cases you might be able to get a franchise owner to switch veggie pattie types with a little bit of sweet talk (or perhaps introduce him or her to the local vegan club).

She's correct, the veggie delight is without the patty, the veggiemax has the patty. And it's been around in America for a lonnng time. I used to see it on the menu 11 years ago when I first went veg, it was older than that. And to this day, some stores don't even carry it. And she didn't say it was vegan. The patty is not vegan.

Smileyface3364 I've never seen a patty, but I wish there were fewer meat options and more veggie options. Mushrooms, a mixed leaf lettuce (arugula, kale, cabbage, collard greens, etc.) instead regular lettuce, shredded carrots (I don't have carrots at any of mine), and more creative ways of cooking veggies like artichokes. They can offer spreads instead of cheese, like guac (the guac at my subway tastes terrible) or hummus! Maybe offer seasoned, cooked beans mixed with corn and salsa.

Of course, it may never happen, but it's always a hope! And the sandwiches would be cheaper and tastier in my opinion.

If you ever go in a subway they have at least a dozen different types of meats! But our sandwiches look like salads, which perpetuates that we only do eat salads..

Try reading all the posts on this thread. .. and yes the veggie patty has been around for a long time, I started working at a Subway in January 1998 after I graduated high school and we had them!! I NEVER said it didn't contain egg whites, all I said is that you don't get weird looks because people don't understand vegans (which is what someone from earlier in the thread claims) it's because most people like cheese so they find it odd when people don't...what am I being stereotypical about? In different parts of America they have different veggie patties...some have Gardenburger brand and others have one called Veggie max and it's not called the Veggie Delite...that is my point, never claimed they didn't contain egg whites , in fact the Gardenburger variety contains cheese as well...
Yeah I get weird looks on occasion but I think it's just because they probably rarely hear people say no cheese since it's included with the sandwich. I never thought it was because they were judging me or anything.

ToriannB That's def good to know. My only options are veggies on bread or alone. This is something that I will eventually touch on in my blog.

Subways are all independently owned AFAIK. Most of the ones I've been to have been very good about changing gloves, and quite genorous with fresh veggies.
they have since raised prices though

Hummus would be absolutely fantastic.  I think I'm going to start a FB campaign to get them to consider it!

No doubt!

Hummus. How about hummus? I couldn't believe they started offering that ickey nasty green mush of plant poop called "avocado" and not hummus. Sorry avo-lovers- it makes me sick.

beanspud AFAIK, the US only has test locations in DC, VA, and MD. Looking forward to them expanding to everywhere else, that would out compete Taco Bell in my book. Interstate travelling would be much nicer. Sweet Onion dressing they use is very tasty! I should send Subway an email.

@Werewolf Girl, care to give us a review?

This thread should be re-named to "Don't eat the veggie patty from Subway"

veggie delite =/= veggie patty

I've gone into DIFFERENT subways with my Brother in Law literally DOZENS of times just in the past month, both in NYC and here in South Florida and first of all no one has ever tried including the Veggie Pattie and I've never seen a weird look from anyone because of the no cheese request.  Today alone we went to 3 different Subways... No Patties, No dirty looks.

Yeah, but they're very simple, stereotypically veg*n foods. If all you can offer to veg*n is pasta or salad, you're not really catering to veg*ns.

Earthling Pizza without cheese is GREAT! It's like half the calories, you can taste the sauce and toppings so much better, and it doesn't leave you feeling gross and heavy.

I have never thought to order pizza without cheese! Is it good? I will definitely do that sometime! I've just given up piza altogether, besides store bought frozen vegan ones.

Holy run on sentence Batman, and the most times cheese has been mentioned in a single post

Here they sort of assume you want cheese; their hands will hover over the cheese but they're quite happy to leave it off if you don't want it.
