I'm definitely going to try field roast (it's hard to find here we have to go to specialty stores for that particular item) I have never seen the morningstar ones here but there stuff is good so I will keep my eyes peeled for those too. Thanks guys!

I'll be honest, I haven't found a good substitute. I was never a huge fan of sausage to begin with but did try Soyrizo as a sub for chorizo... probably wouldn't buy it again.
For hot dogs, I first tried Yves Good Dogs... It took me several months to try to get through a package. I think I ended up throwing the last two away. I've had MorningStar hot dogs and those were better, but still not great. After that I just kind of gave up.

The Field Roast sausages are so expensive that I can't bring myself to buy them.

Only vegan ones I've liked.
I had Tofu Pups --gag!
Smart Dogs-nah, yuck
but Field Roast were good. Pricier than their other sausages by a dollar where I've found them.

|VeggieSince88||I've tried MANY brands of hot dogs, and my absolute favorite is LightLife Smart Dogs, especially the jumbo ones! My mom, who became vegetarian in her 80s, LOVED these and said they tasted just like 'real' hot dogs. For me, since it's been almost three decades since I last tasted 'real' hot dogs, these seem really good and authentic.|

Field Roast frankfurters were the best I've had as a direct sub for a hot dog.
Tofu Pups were the probably the most disgusting!
I didn't like Field Roast enough to justify the price.
I do occasionally buy Tofurky Italian sausage- that I like a lot

|dormouse||Field Roast sausages are great. They are made from wheat gluten and have great flavor. They don't have really plain ones that would classify as hot dogs, but you could definitely eat them in a bun with ketchup and mustard. The apple sage ones are a staple in our house; I eat them often for breakfast with potatoes.|

which ones have you tried so far? it took me awhile to actually try a veggie dog/ sausage and started with a couple packages of Tofurkeys offerings based on a friend's suggestion, as well as a forgettable brand they had at a regular grocer. im not sure what it was, I tried cooking them a few different ways, grill, pan seared, and broiled and every time either the texture was "too much", they smelled awful or the taste didn't work for me and I haven't bought them since. after trying the field roast hand formed burgers a few months ago, I tried the field roast frankfurters, and those were an improvement but I could take or leave them and similarly to their burgers, left an aftertaste from one of their seasonings that I kept tasting hours later. they get very good reviews, so it could just be me but they are who I would probably buy again if I really wanted a hot dog/ sausage experience.
these were them, it looks like Field Roast has several other sausage type products that I haven't tried, I bought the frankfurter ones at whole foods or wegmans I believe

The great HotDog/Sausage Debate!
It has been 4.5 months which I understand is a blink in the eye of most of you veg heads but so far so good though. I have found all kinds of great veg recipes I would have never thought of. On top of that I have found numerous delicious burger options, I have found great taco options, some decent chicken options but all this aside I have a maddening craving for a hot dog.
I am still new at this so I like it when my "meat" tastes like meat or at least resembles meat. I really do not like when things smell like peas (I find the Yves stuff sometimes does).
I am not looking for a miracle here I just want a sausage that does not smell like peas or have a rubber texture. So I can put it in a bun and smother it with toppings and move on.
Also I am in Canada so North American options are best please
