People who don't get that pets can be "children"

I don't have kids. I may never have kids. I, however, have cats. I've had Fuzzy for 8 years. We've been through a house fire (with him in it), a marriage, a move across country. Sputnik joined us 5 years ago as an adult cat, and the three of us have been through a divorce, unemployment, poverty, near homelessness and a lot of lonely nights. They *knew* when I got hired for my job. They knew big GOOD news was on the other end of the phone. They have sat in the bathroom with me, while I've puked my guts up, cuddling me as I hugged a toilet. Fuzzy was there when I accidently ripped my forearm open, coating the house in blood, stumbling to the phone to call for help.

And yet, I'm supposed to see them as disposable towels, tossing them out and replacing at will.

Debbie want me to give them Sputnik. I said, no. Besides, Sputnik hates being without Fuzzy. So, she said to give her both of them and I can keep Big Black. ?!?!?!?!?! No, they are my children. I am not giving them away simply because she likes him.

I don't ask Flower to hand over one of her step-kids because I think he's sweet. Why on earth would I do that to my cats?

ARG!!!! It isn't silly, either, that I love my cats like children. I don't have any children. They are my children. And I'm not tossing my children to the first people who happen to like them, for no apparent reason.

Ah, man, and I was thinking of giving you one of my sons for an x-mas present. :D

I know what you mean, though. My boss always talks about how she can't stand her husband's cats and how she wants to kill them. She has four of her own children, so whenever I say anything about Bruno or Crystal kitty, I can see what she's thinking by the expression on her face. Yes, they are my children and I'm *very* proud of them!

This is what's wrong with so many people. They think animals are dispensable and just around for our use. Ugh.

Seriously, though, do you want one of my stepsons?

I have no desire to have children, but, by golly, I love my little cat to pieces!

I agree with you, Krista, that they know when something is wrong and when they come to you to snuggle or cuddle up, it really is because they are trying to cheer you up. *sigh*

I'm about to inherit 2 of my own. :help: What the devil do I want with yours?!?!?

I'm proud of Fuzzy, who kept himself alive and called for help in a burning apartment. I'm proud of Sputnik, who visits the seniors in our area and hangs out at their apartments every evening and keeps them company. I'm proud of Blackie, who had the good sense to come to me for help.

They are my children. Why is that hard to understand?

Ahhh, the thought of a little kitty surrounded by flames and not understanding what's going on is so sad :(

I have signs for the firefighters in the front and back of my place that says a pet is inside, please locate the pet and save it if there is a fire. You can usually buy them for like $2 at the pet store, or call your local fire department.

The night I slashed my arm up (I partially fell through a window), I was bleeding everywhere. I cut a major vein and 2 small arteries, so blood was oozing and squirting everywhere. Fuzzy followed me to the phone, doing a hurt cry. As I started fainting on the sofa, he rubbed against me, purring and meowing. He stood on the sidewalk and watched me pull away in the taxi. he was still waiting for me there hours later when I came home, stitched up; he was still covered in my blood.

I might add that my cat did more for me that night then my then-husband, who had the gall to yell at me for being "hysterical" and "difficult." I was "hysterical" yet I remembered the taxi phone number, my address, got dressed by myself with a bleeding arm, put my arm over my head and wrapped it in a towel. And I cleaned up the ~1.25 cups of blood splattered all over my apartment the next day. (I do wish I took a photo of it, though. It looked like a murder scene from a movie...bleeding hands going down the wall and everything).

BUT, I shoudn't be attached to my cat. No, I should be able to toss him out without missing him at all.

The flames had not gotten too bad. The neighbours saw him in the window, pounding against it when they were in their kitchen (apartment windows faced each other, about 3 feet between us). Then, he'd dip down and come back up. He was drowning himself in water from his water bowl. When the football players found him (yes, you read right), he was nearly passed out in his water dish (he was much smaller back then).

Oh, but cats aren't smart enough to care that the person who cared for them for 8 years left one of them behind.

I love my cat sooo much!! He's great!! We just had some lunch and watched tv together. And he wakes me up (stands out side my door, and sssssssssscreams until i let him in), and then sits on my bed with me in the weekend mornings!

My brother doesn't seem to care about him much.. thats so weird though.. cause he's 10, almost 11. So he's been there for most of my life!!! Its weird but I can rememeber the day we got him so vividly! And yay! He's the greatest!

Oh and some people think its strange that he has a middle name.. Uh... yeah real weird.. sorry for loving him!!!

Im always proud of my darlin (whenever we get a film developed magority of the photos are of Webster)! Cept he's so damn demanding!!! But ya have to love him!!

things like this really piss me off... people seem to think that animals have no feelings at all. the way cats dogs are treated is abysmal.....we have a cat here in my office that was literally tossed out of a car into our parking lot when she was 8 weeks old or so...not only was she scared witless, her mouth was cut up and all four fangs broken...she screamed outside our office for about 3 days till she realized that she was being fed on a regular basis and calmed down....finally the day i was off she came inside the office to see why i didn't feed her ....she's been here ever since. she's been vaccinated, fixed, spoiled to the nth degree and still waits for me to come in every night....and she deserves every ounce of attention she gets.....i'm willing to bet that the "people" that tossed her would not have done that to one of their children...at least i hope not! but Princess is "just a cat" so it was ok i guess

One of the implications of the attitude of some that animals can't properly be family members is that when people first have pets and then have children, the pets won't get much attention (unless from the children maybe) anymore.

I thought I knew a lot about cats but apparently they aren't as selfish as I thought (not that it would matter much, though).
