As inspired by foods you're surprised are veg*n, here's foods you're surprised aren't... or really should be cause its stupid to put animal stuff in it...
Topping the list.. TWINKIES.
Stovetop Stuffing, including flavours like "Cornbread" and "Mushroom and Onion" and "Savoury Herb." They really don't NEED chicken fat. And I wish I could eat stuffing all the time. lol!
Yellow rice mixes.

Nothing surprises me anymore, but I was amazed when I found out that gelatin came from animals. And that most vegetable soups have meat broth bases. And though I never use it, I find it weird that worchestshire(sp?) sauce contains anchovies.
As for vegan stuff - Trident white contains casein, that weirded me out. Same with soy cheeses.

The only veggie cheese that our grocery store sells is NOT VEGAN -- which I only discovered after I bought the stuff, brought it home, and made a quesadilla.
Veggie cheese does not NEED casein! Who CARES if it is stringy like real cheese? Gahhhhh!!! :furious:

Yes they have got to start making a real vegan cheese...At least I would
try it out, even though I am an omni, at least it would have a lot less fat,
and cholesteral in it...
Has anyone ever heard about making cheese out of tofu by fermenting it?
I thought I saw some recipes for that someplace...

"Vegetarian" Chili (canned) -- generally speaking, there is something illegal
Every SINGLE vegetarian, organic soup in our grocery store has honey. No exceptions whatsoever.
Amy's Veggie Meat Loaf (and I really wanted to try it, too... :()

Smith's Salt and Vinegar Potato Chips have lactose in them. Why, why, why?
"People probably thought I was a bit weird... I've always marched to a different drumbeat and that's just me. I don't think you should just try and fit in because you want, you know, peer approval. I mean, too many of us live in fear of the disapproval of those around us, so I've always worked very hard at just being comfortable with who I am." The marinara sauce at a restaurant I went to last week.
I wanted their angel hair pasta that had a bunch of veggies in it (mushrooms, spinach, etc) and covered in marinara sauce.
When I asked if it was veg, the server said no - the marinara has chicken broth in it.
WTF??? chicken broth? whatEVER for???
stupid.

hey rabid child, pepperidge farm makes a vegan cornbread stuffing, it has veggie mono-diglycerides and no animal fats at all in it. i always have to double check all of the labels when i go to get it, because it's hard to tell the different bags apart, but i love to just pig out on the stuff.
i was really bummed about the fluffing casein in soy cheeses too... cuz i switched to the veggie cheese and lunchmeats for a week before deciding that i could actually do the vegan thing with that, then a couple of weeks into it i discovered what casein actually was. argh!
umm... besides that, i think the candies and frostings in cereals(i always loved snacking on those sweet little shredded wheats as a kid) with gelatin on them were a real bummer.
why isn't vegetarian chili vegan?

the majority of humans got too stuck up to admit that they're still animals, and their method of demonstrating it is by discounting and overlooking other animals.

tons of veggie stuff at walmart has less than 2% includes eggs or milk. I hate that. It should be vegan its not that hard and you would have a slightly bigger consumer group. It would help if vegans hardcore refused to buy things with miniscule amounts of egg/dairy. I do 99% of the time, the one exception is when honey makes up less than 2% of somthing.
