I'm having a slumber party on Friday (yes, I'm 26) and three of my guests are on the Atkin's Diet. I didn't think of that before I planned the party. I told them that I would make dinner and breakfast. All I know about the Atkin's Diet is that you can't have wheat, flour, beans, potatoes and certain veggies. That's opposite of me. If someone is familiar with the Atkin's Diet could they maybe give me ideas about what meals could be Atkin's and vegan friendly?

Atkins folks can eat some cheeses, but not cottage cheese-and they eat eggs. They mostly eat meat. Basically the diet is just meat and fat with no carbs at all except a small salad once a day. Pork rinds are big, since chips are out.....I can't really think of any meal a veg*n and an atkins follower could share. Try a google search with the words "atkins" and "recipes." Good Luck!

tofu and tempeh are your options.
oh, and perhaps some accompanying veggies depending on how strict their diets are and what else theve eaten recently.
Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch em in thongs
Had me thinking 'bout that ass after I'm gone
--Unfortunately, "fity," the irony is lost on me.

try fake meats. many of them are high protein and low carb. smart dogs are high protein and have little or no carbs. garden burger sausages are good for breakfast and have like 2 grams of carbs. my mom is a diabetic and tries to limit her carbs, so i know these are some veggies that are a little lower in carbs: mushrooms, lettuce and endive, celery, string beans, cucumbers, asparagus, broccoli.... those are what my mom eats. macadamia nuts are ok, very high in fat and low in carbs.

ive seen atkins baking mix at trader joe's and the grocery store, not sure if it's vegan though, if it is maybe make some pancakes with that for breakfast?

also, i know there are different parts to the atkins diet, the first 2 weeks you can't have more than 20 grams of carbs, but you can have more after that, so i guess it depends on that too.

i hate to sound like an atkins expert lol, i hate it so much. but that aside, good luck with your party, have fun. :)

If you live near a bookstore, try looking for a book called The Soy Zone. It is like the Atkins diet (high protein, low carb) but based on soy. Then just bring a small notebook and copy a recipe or two.

Umm, look for a site devoted to atkins. It should list which foods are OK. This includes some vegetables. Then try to find out how you'll make a meal from them.

SERVE ONLY PASTA.

Hehe. I think the Atkins diet is one of the dumbest things a person can do to their body. Force them to eat carbohydrates. ;)

You might want to just check with them, if they're really strict about it (and most of them are) eating the wrong things could throw it out of whack. I'd hate to see you make a bunch of something they either can't or won't eat.

My sister is on this diet and she eats lots of meat, cheese and eggs. She has lost weight, but it just seems so unhealthy to me. She says that vegetarians can do the Atkins diet, but I haven't read anything about it. I guess tofu and soy products would be the options, but I would just ask them before I did anything. As Michael says, it would be a shame to waste your time and food.

They can have 20g of carbohydrates a day, so make sure you don't exceed 10, since they'll be getting more carbs from other foods.

According to foodgenius.com, tofu (Mori-nu) has 2.4g of carbs in it per 100g. On atkins, you're allowed 20g of crabs. For one meal, this should be OK.

But do accomodate their diet. After all, if they were throwing a party at which you were invoted, it's good manners for them to accomodate your veg*nism, so do the same in return, even if you believe their diet is BS. You should be able to pull this one off. It's just a matter of finding out what vegetables are low carb, and making a meal out of them. But it's some consolation to learn that tofu is OK, since you'll probably be able to do something with this.

But you never know, these guests might have switched to the next fad diet by the time you're having the party, so things might turn out fine. (Unless the next fad diet is called the "unflavoured rice only" diet.)
