I just polished off the last of my bottle of some cheapo generic balsamic vinegar, and glancing at the ingredients before throwing it away the other night, it mentioned grape wine or something like that(cue anger). I've been trying to find stuff out of the interwebs, but I keep getting conflicting info. So does it just depend, or is it vegan, or what's the deal here?

Edit: Oh no! Thread title typo! I can't fix it!

In like 99.9% cases, should be fine.

If you're buying balsamic dressing, though, sometimes it will have anchovies or fish sauce or other nastiness.

You're gonna make me puke my pants.

Thread title fixed.

I don't see a problem with either balsamic vinegar or the vinaigrette. In the case of the latter, I always check ingredients, and I haven't seen anything of concern so far.

Since it's derived from and/or made in a similar way to wine it probably has many of the same issues that wine does. Like with booze, the only way to find out would be to contact individual manufacturers until you find one which can confirm their product is vegan friendly.

I have never heard of balsamic vinegar being non-vegan. I think you are OK with it.

Most balsamic vinegar dressings I have seen are vegan. I trust them the most and if ever unsure about what to order, it's my first choice (of all my research, I haven't seen anchovies or fish sauce in the ones I have looked at).

You'd likely find honey in a balsamic dressing made either in a restaurant or for sale in a grocery store.

You really can't trust anything! I found an opened jar of Planters dry roasted peanuts my son bought. I usually buy other kinds, and while I had a funny feeling about why the heck I didn't eat them, I dismissed it. they were peanuts.
Planters dry roasted peanuts have -------GELATIN!

So in other words, if you can't trust your nuts, you probably shouldn't trust anything.

I have never seen honey listed as an ingredient in balsamic dressing.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I'd better, at the very least, be more careful in the future.
