Vegan Tootsie Roll

Category: Desserts - Cakes

Suitable for a: vegan diet

1 pound (16 ounces) of any good dark chocolate

2/3 cup light corn syrup

1 cookie sheet or jelly roll pan covered with plastic wrap

1. Finely chop chocolate and place in a clean, dry bowl.

2. Place bowl over a pan of water that has been brought to a boil and removed from heat. Stir chocolate to melt evenly. Remove bowl from the surface of the water and stir to cool slightly.

3. Stir in corn syrup thoroughly and scrape the paste from the bowl. Allow the paste to cool and harden(overnight is best).

4. Squeeze fat from plastic on paper towels before kneading.

5. Lightly dust work surface and chocolate with sifted cocoa powder. Divide the batch into small bite size peices and wrap with plastic wrap or however you want.

NOTE: Use gloves when kneading and working with the chocolate dough.

Additional comments:

This is a recipe taken from and is originally called "Chocolate Plastic" it is exactly liek a tootsie roll but this recipe's roll was to become a chocolate fondant to decorate cakes. You can use it for both and it makes a very very pretty vegan cake and no one would know! I personally make a big batch and use it for both. As i am rolling it i have a huge chunk to eat off.

Really? There's no high quality chocolate dark chocolate that has no milk? This recipe can be made with chocolate chips as well, just the same amount(16 ounces). You don't have to worry about sweetness since the corn syrup will sweeten the dark chocolate up alot.

Have you checked the chocolate chips at the grocery store? There could be some that are accidentally vegan (I know that there are some at my grocery store).
