I know this post is old, but I recently emailed Cheesecake Factory about their so-called "vegetarian" menu items and their cheese. Here's their response:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our menu suggestions for a vegetarian diet.

All of our cheeses contain animal rennet. We offer many different varieties of bread; some are supplied by national suppliers while others are provided locally but none are considered vegan by the manufactures. The portabella burger and the dressings associated with it do not contain Worcestershire sauce.

We hope that this has answered your inquiries. Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,

I never received a reply back about gelatin in their cheesecake. If you buy the frozen cheesecake at the grocery store, it contains gelatin. Stupid companies and their lack of replies!

FOUND SOMETHING!

Thank you for your interest in The Cheesecake Factory. About half of our cheesecakes contain beef gelatin. None of our desserts that we serve in our restaurants contain pork gelatin. The following cheesecakes contain beef gelatin:

Original Cheesecake

Fresh Strawberry Cheesecake

30th Anniversary Chocolate Cake Cheesecake

Brownie Sundae Cheesecake

Godiva Cheesecake

Vanilla Bean Cheesecake

Kahlua Cocoa Coffee Cheesecake

Key Lime Cheesecake

Dulce De Leche Caramel Cheesecake

Low Carb Cheesecake

Dutch Apple Caramel Streusel

The rest of our cheesecakes do not contain any gelatin. If you have any further questions, please let us know at your earliest convenience. I hope that you will visit us soon and enjoy some of our wonderful cheesecake!

Most, if not all, of the cheesecakes anywhere have gelatin in them. They are like marshmallows - they cannot be made without gelatin.

Whole Foods does sell a cheesecake without gelatin.

I've made a cheesecake before, and though it was quite a messy affair due to my poor cooking skills, I can assure you not a bit of gelatin went into that cheesecake.

Not likely, the e-mail was referring to the regular food (shredded cheese), cream cheese typically doesn't contain animal rennet. At least I hope it doesn't...

But if all of their cheeses have animal rennet, then you probably shouldn't eat the carrot cake cheese cake

Wow this thread has a second page. My bad!

Now I'm craving cheesecake from Whole Foods.

(It's probably because it's that time of month and I'm very hormonal. I want to eat everything in sight right now.)

Oh, hmm, I didn't see that first post about the rennet. I am sure they were only referring to the cheese on food rather than the cream cheese in the cakes, but that still leaves us with no information about the cream cheese.

I got excited too soon.

That is very much not true. A good, baked cheesecake, a good cheesecake, should not have gelatine. Lots of cheaper, or low quality, 'fridged cheesecake has gelatine but you go to a proper bakery, one where they actually know how to cook and not just knock out mass produced junk, and you will get gelatine-free cake.

I don't think it does either, but I can't find the ingredients online.

The one I buy at the store is always safe, different brands too.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I saw this, emailed cheesecake factory about rennet, and got a reply. I just registered to post this:

I see this thread is old, but I am going to comment anyway.....

I make cheesecake every so often, in fact I'm making one this weekend. I never use gelatin. It is only low-quality cheesecakes that use gelatin.

My cheesecake will have a filling flavored with Chambord raspberry liqueur, and a sour cream glaze flavored with amaretto, and topped with fresh raspberries.

Here's an updated (2017) list of which cheesecakes at the cheesecake factory contain gelatin (and which do not): approvedeats.com/cheesecake-factory-gelatin-kosher-halal-vegetarian/

I went to Cheesecake Factory a couple of weeks ago. They still DO NOT have a vegan cheesecake (which honestly strikes me as odd). My favorite item there continues to be the Superfoods Vegan Cobb and brown bread dipped in olive oil/vinegar.
