It was a call the emergency operator never expected to receive. Instead of tears, screams or a plea for help, she could hear only barking and a distinctly canine whimper.

Anywhere else and the emergency services might have hung up, blaming a prankster. But the specially-trained German shepherd dog Buddy had already saved his master three times by making emergency calls to police with his teeth.

Very cool! Man's best friend, indeed.

Maybe he got sick of her asking him to push on the keypad... and then when he didn't, she suggested he hit the phone against something [so much easier than pressing a button!].

That noise you heard was a TTY device to check for possible hearing impaired on other line. That agency is the next city north of the agency where I work. That dispatcher should be commended for not giving up on the call!! Plus, the dog is awesome!!

Very cool!

the guy should get a parrot too; the dog can dial, and then when the dog barks, the parrot can give his spiel.

I doubt my cats would do this for me...unless I had a stroke with a can opener in my hand then they might be motivated to save my life.
