Cookouts and barbecues are American as apple pie, and there's no reason to limit yourself to standard vegetarian burgers. Vegan options for cook-outs range from the quick and easy to the complex, so pick something that suits the time and energy you want to invest.
LOVE IT! Here are mine! We do kabobs year-around!
And one quick tip. If you freeze your firm tofu first, then defrost it before using with kabobs, it changes the texture, making it even more firm so it holds on a skewer for grilling MUCH better.
I've always just done the basic boring recipe but with Vegenaise instead of mayo. PETA has a good example, this is exactly my recipe except I leave out the celery and add diced pickles instead: http://www.peta.org/living/food/creamy-dill-potato-salad/
II swear Avocadoes are like heaven mashed with olive oil.
