Even though I've been veg*n for quite a while, and have used nutritional yeast in the past, saying I have a new found LOVE of it would be an understatement. I put it on absolutely everything that isn't sweet. I want to go eat it with a spoon, but know I probably shouldn't. I know it's good for you, I was just wondering if it's high in certain things you could eventually overdose on... Sorry if it seems like a stupid question.

It is pretty high in B vitamins, so I guess you could possibly, maybe, perhaps, on a Tuesday when it's raining, get too many of those vitamins. Personally, I doubt it.

I'd more be worried about a yeast imbalance, but if you eat that much already and haven't had an issue, I doubt you will.

Edit: I meant to add that I've had a large pack of it in my cupboard for a year. I'm terrified of it. Sorta like seitan and tempeh. It scaresssssssssssssss me.

A bit off topic but it IS a nutritional yeast thread...

How long does the stuff last? I bought a tiny bag of it at school but threw it away when I came home for a month for winter break, because I wasn't sure if it would go bad....

I'm pretty sure B vitamins are water soluble so you likely can't have too much. You'll just pee out the excess, I think.

I was doing my own thing quietly and YOU are the one who created this post trying to make a big deal out of it. Keep flaming the fire. That must be what you want.

I'd like to ditto this question...I have a giant giant bag of it just hanging out in my cupboard, still air-tight but not kept cold. Am I okay?

Hmmm, mine usually has an expiration date printed on it. It was definitely within a year of purchase, although I can't remember exactly. I imagine it would keep longer stored in the freezer.

??? It's never given me gas, and we consume a LOT in this house. Maybe you have to build up a tolerance?

And it's not really a "yeast" like active yeasts for breadmaking are - you aren't going to get a "yeast imbalance" from it.

Yeah, it's deactivated yeast... so maybe it wouldn't cause a yeast imbalance... ?

And NO, thank you very much... Ladies don't FART. LMAO Really though, it doesn't give me gas.

A good question. I use a lot of nutritional yeast too. I found this article on vitamin toxicity:

be carefull

be careful with yeast . its sometimes fortified with b vitamins like niacin and b12. ive takin large doses of nutritional before and it caused a niacin skin burn , where it feels like your skin is hot and burning, very unpleasant and probably not good for you. id advise moderation.
