i made waaay too much rice for dinner a few nights ago, i thought i'd be nice and make enough for everyone but the inlaws ended up making potatoes too and nobody wanted any rice. so i've got this container of leftover rice that's been sitting in the fridge for almost a week. i figured i'd use the leftovers to make fried rice but i never got around to it. at this point i'm not sure if i should still use it or just toss it, but it's quite a bit so i feel bad throwing it out

Rice that's gone off has a distinctive bad smell, so you can easily tell is it's ok or not. If in doubt, don't hesitate to throw it away. Next time, you can freeze any surplus rice or other grain, and rest easy.

i should have frozen it but i thought it'd get used up by now. i'll probably just toss it. we're making curry tonight and will be using fresh rice so if there's leftovers of that i'll be up to my eyeballs in rice lol

while i'm at it anyone know how long curry paste lasts in an opened jar? lol i've had one on the go for a couple months. i bought a new jar the other day just in case but it's probably fine. i don't imagine there's much in there to go bad

I like to make big batches of brown rice and then freeze it in 1 cup portions. It takes so long to cook that if I am in a hurry I don't really want to cook it on the stove top.

usually i make as much as my rice cooker will hold. if i make stir fry or curry i always make enough for leftovers. usually we end up with 2 small containers of rice and veg/curry/whatever, 1 for me and 1 for hubby with his chicken or whatever in it, and 1 of just plain extra rice which i usually use to make fried rice or just have it on the side with whatever i happen to have
