Broccoli is one of those foods like peanuts that is hard to digest. I know for me I can't eat raw broccoli without mixing it with other greens in a salad or other vegetable dish, and can only eat it broccoli about once a week. Even cooked. Love broccoli, but it doesn't love me. I've talked to other people who say the same thing... one of the foods that is hard to digest. If you add beans to the salad it will help, such as chick peas.

umm..broccoli doesn't cause constipation. or shouldn't--it is VERY high in fiber--that is part of the problem, and why it can be very hard to digest. i also cannot eat much raw broccoli without getting a lot of stomach pains (irritation of the intestines more than constipation), so i mostly eat frozen and cooked stuff. yum.

try increasing water intake when you eat broccoli and also adding a lot of soluble fiber with it, to help move it along.

Some foods ferment in your system and cause bloating and/or gas. Here's a list of some that may cause trouble.

Brussels sprouts

All foods ferment in your system if they're in there long enough. There's no reason to avoid those foods unless they give you trouble.

The brassicas (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, collard greens, kale, kohlrabi) contain compounds that cause gas and bloating. The compounds are neutralized during cooking, so just cook your brassicas. No prob.

Broccoli is notorious for causing gas when eaten raw, but I've never had any problem with cooked broccoli... constipation OR gas.
