My American Phillipine friend just gave a boiled banana for snack.....and OMG it is soooooo GOOD!!!!! It is not mushy at all, more like sweet potato yum. You can't use regular banana, it has to be this small, fat banana (no it's NOT the big plantain) that I have yet to find out the name. Based on a brief search on google, boiled unripe bananas are not uncommon for islanders to replace starchy food.
I gotta find out how to make boiled bananas, otherwise I would soon to be found begging for them at every Filipino house here in hawaii
The banana I had was boiled with skin ON, not peeled, which helped to keep the banana "starchy" but not mushy. The inside is very firm and not very sweet. I will try to boiled some of those unripe "apple banana" and see what happens. Oh man, I got addicted after just ONE I am so hopeless
hehe Vicky, we are on the Oahu Island of Hawaii, so there are all kinds of funky bananas . you don't need recipe, you just need the right kind of banana. Shoot, now I am totally preoccupied by some friggin little banana, way to go, huh?
There are certain bananas you have to boil to be able to get the peel off relatively easily. I know I love fried plantains. I'll have to look around for some of these little green bananas. They sound tasty. Anything that's sweet potato-like is in my book.
I read earlier that someone was talking about how good boiled bananas were, but that it was a special type. I got some relatively ripe bananas set the stove on high, boiled the water for 4 minutes and dropped in a bannana. slice off the top of it though the stem part, for some reason it tastes different. I added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to. the only thing I seemed to have got the opposite effect instead of a gooey inside I got a gooey outside hard inside (it wasnt runny or anything it was still hard) I left the bannana in for about 5 minutes.
I've never had boiled nanners. I'm guessing the thread you were referring to is in the recipes section of the site. Maybe a mod will move this thread over there, as well. That way all them nanners will be in the same place
what a teaser! sounds like having one of these would involve a plane ticket for me.
