Hello! Just wondering if anyone has ever tried any vegetarian bacon? Such as Quorn bacon?
I've only heard that it's quite leathery so I just wanted some more opinions... since Christmas is coming up and my family have always had bacon sandwiches in the morning I don't want to be left out
Before becoming vegan, I used Morningstar Farms bacon (it contains egg-whites.) It's a good approximation, but be careful cooking it. Undercooked and it's limp, overcooked, it burns.
I make tempeh bac'n by slicing it thinly on the diagonal and using about 1 T liquid smoke, some maple or agave syrup, and just enough water to cover the bottom of the pan I'm using. I oil the bottom, heat, and add the tempeh and marinade. I just let it absorb, turn, and cook until browned.
When I really want a bac'n taste, like BLT's or on a potato, I go with the Betty Crocker Baco's.
Google Baco's. I can't figure how to paste the image!
I think I am going to try eggplant strips soaked in Sazon Goya Ham Flavoring, then dehydrated in the oven. Is there a certain temperature that eggplant needs to be cooked or is it fine to just dehydrate it? I might also add some liquid smoke.
I to like this stuff really but not getting it the best one anywhere.
