Seriously. I had about a cup and a half of raw baby spinach with my lunch today and I'm having incredibly painful stomach cramps right now. Is raw spinach really hard to digest or something? ARGHHH! I've never had a problem before, but I don't typically eat it in larger quantities either...

Any insight as to why spinach is trying to kill me today?

Could it have been a dressing or something you put on the spinach?

Could it have been something in the hummus?

Did you write the book of love, and do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so? Do you believe in rock Ân roll,
Can music save your mortal soul, And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Maybe the spinach was contaminated with some type of bacteria that causes food poisoning. I hope you feel better soon.

To kill bacteria on raw produce i have vinegar in a spray bottle and i put a spray bottle head on a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and i spray the produce with both of these before washing it.

could have been e.coli in the spinach. but not raw spinach in and of itself.

Unless it has happened more than once, I don't think I'd blame the spinach. Maybe you were going to have a stomach ache today for a different reason?

For some reason, I get stomach pain from brown rice, never white. People are different. I eat it anyway, though.

I hope you feel better. I agree that it might've been bad contaminated spinach or something bad in the hummus or what you previously had eaten. Personally I eat about that amount of raw spinach in salads almost daily and never had issues but everybody's bodies are different.

Bagged spinach has been implicated as the source of a number of e-coli breakouts. If you bought the spinach pre-packaged, throw out the rest of the package just to be safe. Buying fresh spinach in bunches and rinsing it thoroughly before eating is safer.

I agree with the others, I think it was something that was wrong with the spinach as opposed to the spinach itself.

May you be held in compassion.
May your pain and sorrow be eased.
May you be at peace.

Yeah, I plan on tossing the bag. I certainly don't want to deal with that again! I feel better now, but I was hurting for a good two hours or so.

Although I did do some googling and it seems that raw spinach can be tougher to digest for some. It's never happened before though so I can't imagine that my body is suddenly waging war against spinach.

Thank you all for you help!

Maybe you have an averse reaction to something in the spinach? Oxalic acid perhaps?
