I emailed them, and asked if they are vegan (and listed a bunch of examples) and this is what I got back:

Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us concerning Lender's\\ Bagels.

Because the bagels are kosher, the bagels do not contain animal products.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us.

I've never eaten Lender's Bagels so I have no idea if they are vegan or not. However, that customer service rep is an idiot. Just because something is kosher does not mean it is vegan. Foods containing animal products/flesh can be kosher (not pork or shellfish) as long as the animal was slaughtered in accordance with "proper guidelines" and certain products (meat and dairy) are not mixed. Kosher does not imply vegan... though it doesn't rule it out either. This letter tells you NOTHING.

Yep, veg*nfrog is right. That rep is a moron!

As a matter of fact, doesn't Lenders have an "egg" bagel??

The person who replied to you is an idiot. However, I have been in contact with a rep from Lender's who *has* a brain, and was assured that all suspicious ingredients were not animal derived. My guy did his homework, and I trust him.

I think lenders uses a lot of preservatives and processed ingredients. I'm not sure about animal ingredients though. I don't eat those bagels; I get the fresh-made ones. Try them, they're really good!

Both. All kinds. I eat the refrigerator ones... They can be stored, but aren't as funked as frozen bagels. (Just my little two-cent hint)
