I was told recently that by storing leftover onions in a plastic baggie or any type of container in the fridge they will absorb bacteria and can make you sick. Apparently once an onion is cut if you don't use it up right away it starts harboring bacteria?? I've always stored my half used onions in a baggie in the fridge and have left them there for days before using them up and have never gotten sick but I'm curious if there is any truth behind this. Is it really dangerous or some sort of food myth?

Wow, I've never heard of this before..

I use cut-up onions almost everyday that I store in a container in my fridge. Haven't been sick so far..? Hopefully its just a myth!

I think someone's trying to scare you. Keep using your onions. The only problem I ever had with onions is having to register my breath as a deadly weapon with the police after eating some.

Anytime I think I'm perfect, I remember that my cousin lives on an island, and I've never walked over to visit her.

I always toss my leftover onions in the freezer. I don't know why I do that.

My mom always tossed them in the freezer, too. I guess they keep longer, but they make everything else in the freezer taste like onions, especially the ice cubes. I simply only chop as much as i need and leave the rest of the onion intact and toss it in the vegetable drawer in the fridge.
