Long story short, I want to try these Chicken Liver Toasts with Shallot Jam from The Bitten Word:

...but even as an omni, I would not touch chicken livers with a ten foot pole.

Does anyone know of a vegan/vegetarian pate substitute that might be good with crostinis and shallot jam?

You could try blending up some wild mushrooms in place of the chicken livers - although I've never had chicken liver, so I wouldn't be able to speak to the accuracy in terms of taste...

I found this vegan mushroom-walnut pate that looks promising, so I might try it! We have a handful of shallots we need to use up. http://foodsforlonglife.blogspot.com...room-pate.html

Thanks Salad!

ETA: I've never eaten chicken liver pate either, so I guess if it doesn't taste like it's supposed to, I sure won't know the difference.

I made a fantastic mushroom walnut pate from The Vegan Table by Colleen Patrick Goudreau. It wasn't raw though. I am going to make it again but fix the spices up a bit becuase I'm not overly fond of sage. But if you want the recipe you can PM me!

You're welcome! Please post the recipe (and pics) once you've got it perfected!

Tartex is an awesome pate substitute. Not a straight liver substitute to make pate, though, it is more a ready made pate, and comes in many flavours. If you do not have it at your local store, which is likely, it seems hard to find, you can mail order it quite easily. http://www.tartex.com/en/
