Hi guys! I am new here... I've actually been lurking around the forums for a few weeks and finally got around to joining!

I guess you could say I am a transitioning vegan. I eat a 100% plant-based diet, and last month I went cruelty-free with all of my makeup and beauty products.

I was vegan for 2 years, about 5 1/2 years ago, but I fell off the wagon and I am totally back on it now! I am inspired to be vegan because of health, ethics, and the environment... not mention world hunger. As I am making this transition I truly feel like a weight has been lifted from my back!

I have a fiancé who is not vegan but we recently watched "Forks over Knives" and he agreed to go on a plant-based diet with me, and he also agreed to raise our children on the diet as well!
As for him becoming a full vegan, that's another story for another thread!

I also have a 5 year old daughter that I am raising with my fiancé. She is a very picky eater but recently I have decided to try to transition her to a plant-based diet as well. Its tricky but so far so good, and again I might get into that in another thread.

Anyways I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself! I am very excited to be joining you all here!!

Welcome :) I have been vegan for only 2 months now from becoming vegetarian for years. I too got rid of all of my make-up that wasn't cruelty-free. MAC as I got rid of big time! You are going to love it here. :)

Welcome aboard, wildflowerliz!

Properly-planned vegan diets are healthy for people of any age, but (as you may already know) a low-fat vegan diet is not appropriate for children. The Vegetarian Resource Board (a vegan organization led by physicians and dietitians) has stated that children need generous amounts of fat in their diets: http://www.vrg.org/journal/vj2016issue1/2016_issue1_nutrition_hotline.php .

Here are additional resources regarding vegan nutrition for children:

You might also find it useful to make 1 or 2 appointments with a Registered Dietitian who specializes in vegetarian nutrition and pediatric nutrition.

In the United States, you can find a local Registered Dietitian through this website: http://www.eatright.org . Just click on the "Find an Expert" button, located in the upper-right-hand portion of the webpage.

In the U.K., you can find a local Registered Dietitian on the Freelance Dietitians website: http://www.freelancedietitians.org/

In New Zealand, you can find a local Registered Dietitian through the Dietitians New Zealand website: http://dietitians.org.nz/find-a-dietitian/

In Canada, you can find a local Registered Dietitian at the Dietitians of Canada website: http://www.dietitians.ca/Find-a-Dietitian.aspx .

And David, thank you SO MUCH for those resources I will definitely look into that. I definitely don't have my daughter on a low-fat diet but I do want to learn as much about that subject as possible! So thank you so much!! I love it here already :)
