I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 24 years. I am newly vegan for 30 days. I live in rural upstate NY and I do not have any support from family or friends. I have one friend who is a vegetarian who eats fish...but that is it as far as "support goes."
I feel as if I am wavering when I am stressed; dairy products seem to tempt me.
When I was young, my family owned a dairy. They processed the milk and sold it retail. Forty years ago, farms were lovely, idyllic places. I use to love going with my grandfather to pick up milk. I befriended animals on each farm and nicknamed them all. I liked to visit Bill the Bull, the cows, chickens, and kittens.
Fast forward to 1988 when I read Diet for a New America
. After reading it, I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian. However after reading an recent article about Cabot having factory farming in upstate NY, my conscience and values can no longer accept my eating lacto-ovo vegetarian. I must be vegan and be true to myself and my values.
Anyway, I am here to meet people and gain support for like-minded individuals who are compassionate for all sentient beings.
