I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 24 years. I am newly vegan for 30 days. I live in rural upstate NY and I do not have any support from family or friends. I have one friend who is a vegetarian who eats fish...but that is it as far as "support goes."

I feel as if I am wavering when I am stressed; dairy products seem to tempt me.

When I was young, my family owned a dairy. They processed the milk and sold it retail. Forty years ago, farms were lovely, idyllic places. I use to love going with my grandfather to pick up milk. I befriended animals on each farm and nicknamed them all. I liked to visit Bill the Bull, the cows, chickens, and kittens.

Fast forward to 1988 when I read Diet for a New America. After reading it, I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian. However after reading an recent article about Cabot having factory farming in upstate NY, my conscience and values can no longer accept my eating lacto-ovo vegetarian. I must be vegan and be true to myself and my values.

Anyway, I am here to meet people and gain support for like-minded individuals who are compassionate for all sentient beings.

Hello and welcome.

There are many vegan recipes using soya, oat or other milks and cream that you can make when you're tempted by dairy.

I do like rice milk and I recently discovered daiya "cheese."

I am allergic to soy and nuts. It does limit me a bit, but I work around it.

Not really because there are various other vegan milks too. Can you eat peanuts, as they are not nuts ?

You're lucky to be able to buy Daiya cheese. Where I live you have to order very expensive vegan cheeses which aren't tasty. So, I am 'cheesless' at the moment LOL.

I can eat some peanuts, but not daily.
