Dennis Weaver, veteran star of television series such as "Gunsmoke" and "McCloud", and TV movies such as Steven Spielberg's "Duel", passed away recently. He was a long-time vegetarian, although he wasn't as well-known for this as other celebrities.

He also wrote and sang country music, as I recall.

Peasant (1963-1972) and Fluffy (1970s?-1982- I think of you as 'Ambrose' now)- Your spirits outshone some humans I have known. Be happy forever.

He was also a friend to animals, being involved with the AW group Actors and Others for Animals, with Valerie Harper. But that bit of information was conveniently left out of the LA Times' obituary.

ETA: And, apparently, also left out of the USA today obituary.

How sad. I grew up watching Gunsmoke.

Ah. I too was a fan. I can remember watching Duel on TV when I was maybe 12 or 13, on some late late show...wonderfully suspenseful. I've lost track of the number of TV guest spots or Westerns I've seen him in.

The ones I pity are the ones who never stick out their neck for something they believe, never know the taste of moral struggle, and never have the thrill of victory. - Jonathan Kozol

he was also a big advocate of the Earthship housing concept. His own Earthship is gorgeous.
