Are Pyrex measuring cups heat proof?



If not, will someone please recommend a heat-proof measuring cup

Glass or plastic? I have some glass ones, and as far as I know, they are heat proof.

Glass. I thought they were, too, but usually it *says* on it. Mine doesn't, so I'm worried.



I guess I could put it in the oven and see if it explodes...

I haven't put them in the oven. In fact, I have never used anything hot in them.

According to the product description on Bed Bath & Beyond's website they're microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. The only caution I would have would be to avoid putting cold liquid into a hot measuring cup, because the temperature change could cause it to crack (learned this one the hard way).

They're tempered glass, they should be fine to around 400 450 fahrenheit or so, like bps said no drastic temperature changes.

DEFINITELY not stove-top safe.



My ditzy DH discovered that one the hard way. Blew up my cassarole dish and splattered food every-freakin-where.



Thank goodness we weren't in the room, or we could both have been *really* hurt. It flung glass so hard that it imbedded itself into the drywall on the opposite wall, 16.5 feet away.



Thank goodness that was *just* before we remodeled the kitchen, 'cos stuff ran down behind the bolted-in stove. Boy, was it NASTY back there when we ripped it out...apparently we weren't the first to have something icky get back there.

I did the same thing in my old apartment accidentally. I took out the pyrex from the oven and sat it on the stovetop. I went to cook something else and turned on the wrong burner, the one the pyrex was sitting on. I saw it just in time to throw my son out of the kitchen, right before it exploded. There was molten glass embedded in the vinyl floor and in the cabinets. Luckily not it us

Abrupt temperature changes= not gooood. (ie cold liquid in hot cup, like someone mentioned, or setting a hot cup on a cold surface. Set it on a trivet or towel)
