I love going away! Life is (solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and) short.
I've seen, felt, smelled, and experienced some of the most amazing things while traveling. Seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, smelling the inside of Belgian chocolate shops, watching Pueblo fires on Christmas Eve at a reservation in New Mexico, and on and on (including, okay, fine, a small disaster in a London bed and breakfast). And all that was before I turned 15! Traveling on vacation rocks.
Leaving home isn't always wonderful, of course... But there are some things, some experiences, that can't be had through TV screens or daily routine or hanging with familiar people in familiar places.
And I've learned that the amount of stress people experience while traveling usually has a LOT more to do with their disposition and less to do with the situation. I had a flight to Paris be delayed by 12 hours. Other people were having a cow. It didn't bother me. I napped, explored the airport, read a good book, talked to strangers and learned about people I would never have otherwise learned about. Attitude is everything.
