Each year in Yulin/China, thousands of innocent dogs are being slaughtered to end up on Chinese plates. as part of a "ritual".
This petition needs a lot more signatures in order for it to reach the required level to receive the attention of the Yulin/Chinese government. Please sign, and please pass it on to as many people as possible.
the festival is coming around the corner this year and I've been seeing a lot of talk about it on social media. tbh it's frustrating because so many people are quick to call the Chinese "barbaric" "disgusting" and how people who eat dogs and cats should "die a slow painful death". I'm against animal cruelty and I also think the festival needs to be stopped, but why do people not make the connection that they are doing the same thing when they eat meat/animal products?
I actually commented on one person's post and they got really angry and defensive and insisted it's different.. He said "give sources of farm animals being boiled alive, tortured, [etc] and then eaten in a festival" I provided several bacon festival links and videos and article detailing investigations showing exactly that, but he said it's not the same. He said I'm separating people when they're trying to come together against yulin. *sighs* :/
I agree Meg Moo! But I am glad people are fighting against this, I remember when I first decided to go veg, my dog was a big part of it and when I read about this festival I was disgusted and would be horrified to eat my dog and then I realized I should be horrified eating any animal. So I think protesting against these things may be a start, I guess not many people will see the light but some might.
I have seen a lot of commentary about this on social media and I have noticed that people make a huge distinction between what the "terrible Chinese" are doing with dogs and what they themselves are doing with cows/ pigs/ turkeys/ chickens. It is hypocrisy at its extreme
It is possible that this is partly politically motivated...
*In any case, the killing of ALL animals is evil!*
I signed it! How often do they do this?? I just signed about this earlier in the year!! I agree with the poster who said that caring for animals has to start somewhere and the asian culture is without a doubt one of the cruelest towards animals, in my finding.
At least in the US and UK there is some attempt for doing things humanely, however poorly put together it is. In the asian communities it seems like there is not even the slightest attempt made...in fact, I have heard that boiling dogs and skinning them alive is something they strive to do..they like the taste of the dog after it has been tortured!! The animals are treated like complete trash in these areas! It is completely devastating!! Dont get me wrong..I know that the US and UK are no angels either...farm animals are treated disgracefully too but I personally feel it is far worse in China, at least that is my opinion on it anyway.
On a positive note, I heard that times are now starting to slowly change in China...I have read that thousands of Chinese citizens are protesting against this festival daily...blocking trucks and rescuing dogs! When people protest over there they are putting their lives in jeopardy! I take my hat off to those that are doing so!!
It is interesting to see how people compartmentalize their ethics.
It's pretty black and white to me. Either it is okay for animals to die to satisfy your desires or it isn't, the species shouldn't matter. Whether the meat comes from a dog or a shrimp, it's all flesh.
Yes, what they do to the dogs is cruel but it is no better or worse than anything done to any animal that winds up on our plates or in our closets. In a perfect world it would all stop and perhaps some of those omnivores getting upset about the dog meat will see the connection to their own consumption of animal products.
I personally think that all forms of animal cruelty are awful and need to stop and it is disgusting to think how animals are treated all over the world for food, clothes, etc. I would never condone it or take part in it but I think the manner in which the dogs and all animals, are treated in Asia is what is getting people to notice and take part in fighting against it, I know that these animals are treated deplorably here too, but I personally do think the treatment of ALL animals are worse in Asia than anywhere in the world. Hopefully it will eventually get people to open their eyes to the plight of other animals but even if they dont it is still good that they at least care enough to fight for the dogs.
