not me, my mom. anyone have any advice or info on how to lower high blood pressure? veg-related info would be good but not necessary. she's omni but open minded.
she's been told her blood pressure is so high she could have a stroke any day. she's going to quit her job as soon as she finds a new one, as it's the main source of her stress. she can't do anything around the house without getting overheated and lately she hyperventalates just going up the stairs and it sends her into a panic attack. plus she was told she has angina a few years ago and she's been getting chest pains when she gets stressed out now. just talking about it on the phone earlier got her worked up into chest pains.
First, quick before she gets a stroke or anything: get the high blood pressure medically managed by a good, skilled doctor, with drugs.
Then start developing a new lifelong diet that will gradually clear the placque from her arteries. This mean low in hydrogenated (saturated) fat, and containing zero industrially-hydrogenated fat, and moderate to low in mono-saturated and unsaturated fats, including both omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids (omega 3 from walnuts and walnut oil and flax seeds and flax seed oil). This will gradually reduce the placque over a period of several years, and then she can try going off the blood-pressure medicine. The medicines tend to cause fatigue, but they can save your life. High blood pressure can gradually cause kidney damage, as well as strokes, heart problems, aneurisms, etcetera.
i've been bugging her for years to excercise and quit smoking. she's trying to quit smoking right now but the excercise is a no go. she'll go for walks if i go with her but i live 5 hours away.
so i'm trying to convince her to join a beginner's yoga class. what she really needs is something that will help her learn to relax and manage her stress. if she loses weight in the process great. if not, the yoga will give her more energy so maybe she'll start other excercises later.
anyway i know diet is a big thing too and we've been working on that for a while.
i'll forward your suggestions to her soilman, thanks.
oh and she is on meds, her doc put her on them as soon as he saw her readings, and scheduled her for tests at the hospital like i said.
i invited her to come stay with me for a couple weeks or whatever if she quits her job and wants to take some time to relax before starting a new one. she's stressing herself out more and more about it all though. she wants out of her field badly and has for a while, but is afraid to go try anything new. she also thinks she's too old and nobody will hire her
so i'm also on the lookout for job postings for her.
not sure what else i can do really
