Should I see a doctor?

Hello everyone. Recently became vegan a couple months ago. Lost about 20 lbs. 27 years old 128 pounds.

For the past couple weeks I've been having a weird lung issue. While in bed, laying on my back or stomach. I notice my lung has developed a popping/clicking feeling midway through my breaths.

I don't really want to go to a doctor because they will probably end up making me get an X-ray and I would like to avoid the radiation.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi wonderd, and welcome to the forum.

I really encourage you to see your physician regarding this. None of us here are doctors, and we can't really diagnose you.

Please don't be afraid to see your physician. They won't necessarily need to do any X-rays. A physician can do a lot of diagnoses just by using a stethoscope etc. If you prefer not to have an X-ray, just say so - no one is going to force you to have an X-ray.

Also, radiology medicine uses lower-dose radiation than they used to: https://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/inf...pg=safety-xray

Not as a medical professional, but just some random thoughts. It seems unlikely that popping or clicking would be directly related to your lungs, which are a soft, fleshy organ. More likely, it's associated with your skeletal structure or perhaps muscular tendons. Rib cage, collar bones, shoulder blades, conceivably even your spinal column. I would recommend seeing a chiropractor, before an MD.

Two things I noticed about your post. First, you say you've recently lost a lot of weight. This could be related to your weight loss. Your body could be making adjustments to the relatively sudden change in weight distribution. The other thing I noticed is, you make no mention at all of having any pain from this. If it gives you any pain or discomfort, I would definitely seek professional advice.

For the past year or so, I've been experiencing odd, random clicking or popping sensations in my lower spine. Most of my life, I've had relatively poor posture, but now that I'm retired and living with far less pressure, I believe my spinal column has been in the process of straightening itself up. Like you, these clickety-clicks only happen when I'm at rest in bed and my muscles are very relaxed. There's never been any pain involved with it. More importantly, after a year, it's happening less and less frequently. I believe I've been growing some new muscle tissue in my lower back to more properly support my spinal bones, and I'm sitting and standing a little taller because of it. At this point, I have no plans to see a doctor about it.

If you have any doubts or are feeling any pain, get to a doctor, but again, I believe I would see a specialist, like a chiropractor, before a generic MD.

Congratulations on going vegan. Good health to you!

I hope you're not associating this new symptom with your diet!
We can't tell if the 'click' is related to surrounding bone/tissue or something in your lung or even heart, so please see a doctor. An Xray is often far less an issue than the disease they can detect sooner than any other exam

It's also possible the clicking is being caused by fluid (congestion) in your lungs or airways. Bubbles. Possible infection. See a doctor.

It may not be related to your new diet. Please consult a doctor - that'll definitely be better than getting an diagnosis from us strangers on the internet. Like David3 says, if you don't want an X-ray, just tell them so.
