ok me and my gf wanna go on holiday we both are basically finished at uni, we want to do some volunteering abroad in an animal conservation or something like that we have been looking online for trips and there's nothing that really seems genuine, money isn't really an issue but the conservations we have been looking at seem to be a lot more people focused rather than animal, and what we are finding doesn't really say how involved with the animals you will be, and seem like it will be more just more looking at animals. And for the price of the trip to these conversations we could afford to go on a safari.
So I was just wandering if people know of any or have any knowledge on finding good programs. I don't know if this makes sense but were not really looking for like you know some kind of t.v holiday really want to get hands on any advice suggestions welcome

http://www.adventurebimbling.com/tra...uaries-abroad/ found this site and is proving to be quite useful looking into some of these schemes.

I would recommend the civil service, wich at some point was an alternative to the military service nut is still active, they can sometimes have some stuff, and contacting non governmental organisations wich seem close to what you want, like the wwf or sea shepherd, they tend to need qualified volunteers or can put you in contact with smaller organisations wich will accept even non qualified people. At worse they will give you better advices lol.

Working within and becoming part of a culture creates more interesting memories than tourism.

Well I've never been on safari (don't expect I ever will either) and the only kind of animal sanctuaries I've volunteered for were for cats and dogs. So I can't give that kind of specific advice. I spent a couple weeks in New Orleans caring for stranded cats and dogs after Katrina but that was hardly a vacation. I spent a week building houses for poor people in Mexico, that was fun but not animal-oriented. I've done vacation-volunteer combos at a companion animal sanctuary, which was great. And I've done a weekend bed-n-breakfast type thing at a farmed animal sanctuary (no volunteering). Hmmm... I personally have very little interest in "exotic" animals anymore so I think if I were in your situation then I would sign up to volunteer at a farmed animal shelter for a couple weeks in the mornings then use my afternoons and weekends to explore the area surrounding the shelter. I'd basically pick the shelter based on an interest in the shelter's location.
