Do you ever eat tofu raw (uncooked)? My husband just sits on the couch biting right into a block of tofu. I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.

My daughter, Marley (4) eats raw tofu everytime I cook with it. She says, "don't use it all mom, I like it like this." I also pop a couple of chunks in my mouth while I'm cutting it up. I like to taste the different kinds, it's interesting how they can taste so different.

I eat it raw, it's pretty common here in Japan. But it's soft tofu, and I often put soy sauce/green onions/shredded japanese radish on it (one or a combo).

What kind of wife are you? Bring the poor guy a beer and a bowl of pretzels, for God's sake.

Tofu isn't "raw".

I chose no. I've tried it uncooked before, but always cook it.

I eat it uncooked, but only Taifun smoked tofu with almond and sesame. not the plain kind.

I agree wth *Ahimsa* that it isn't really raw, but yeah, whenever I'm chopping tofu to cook I'll normally eat a couple of bits before I cook it om nom nom

Like others have said, it's not actually raw, I think it's just commonly called that since (by me as well =P)

I don't mind it 'raw' though, and went through a phase of eating it like that on sandwiches a while ago.

I've crumbled it and mixed it with herbs (basil, oregano, etc) and sprinkled it on salad. It's ok. I definitely like it cooked better.

heck yeah, uncooked tofu! :-D

I like to slice it thinly and put it on sandwiches with avocado, tomato, and garlic salt. It's my lunch not-meat.

I was doing my own thing quietly and YOU are the one who created this post trying to make a big deal out of it. Keep flaming the fire. That must be what you want.

I've never tried it uncooked, and I don't think I plan to. As much as I like tofu and am trying to eat more of it, the smell sometimes gets to me.

Sometimes if I'm really tired and want a meal, I'll cut some slices off a block of tofu and eat them raw, it's not particularly flavourful, but not bad either. When I was a kid I used to eat it raw all the time, by itself or in sandwiches, until the other kids brainwashed me into thinking that tofu was gross.

In the past several months I've really gotten a taste for "raw" tofu (i.e., tofu that hasn't been cooked, baked, marinated, seasoned, etc). A lot of people think tofu is bland and tasteless like cardboard...but I think it's delicious!!

That's the only way I can stand the stuff. Sliced, with a bit of sea salt on it and MMMMMM....

I can eat a whole brick in one sitting this way.

Absolutely true. I've tasted tofu that ranged from super-delicious to freakishly gaktastic. Amazing how wide the taste varies from one brand to the next.

I never used to eat it raw (or really much at all) but now they always have in uncooked/unseasoned in bowls at my dining hall for salads and I've found I like it just as much plain as any other way.

Nah, since it's so easy to cook it anyway.

I never thought to try it "raw." Seems like the texture might be a little gross. But so many of you recommend it, so I'll give it a try sometime.

The only time I eat uncooked tofu is when I make a chocolate pudding or icing out of it. Otherwise, I rather dislike the taste of plain tofu.
