Babe, Charlotte's Web and Chicken Run are great! All about animals and not eating them...

As well as Finding Nemo (with the memorable quote "Fish are friends, not food!") and Shark Tale with the loveable vegetarian shark...

After my mom read me charlotte's web I wouldn't let her kill spiders anymore, so that must be animal friendly, and I loved the story.

Lots of disney movies are good, also homeward bound, Lion the witch and the wardrobe, milo and otis, and all the one's everyone else suggested.

I recommend Black Beauty, especially this version: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109279/ There's a lot of sadness in it, but it has a happy ending and teaches children respect for horses.

Most of the children movies are animal-friendly, because Hollywood knows that children in general love animals. The problem is that their parents teach their children to dissociate those cute screen animals from their real-life counterparts. It's a good thing to fall in love and root for Babe, but once at home, you're supposed to eat pork, because those ribs in your plate have nothing to do with that sweet piglet. I witnessed this attitude many times. I took my 8 year-old nephew to see Chicken Run, and when he got home, his mother (my sister) served him a chicken cutlet. The boy said something like "I don't want to eat those chicken who didn't want to end up in a pie", and my sister reassured him that that piece of meat on his plate had nothing to do with his screen heroes, and besides, he needed to eat it if he wanted to grow tall and strong. My sister is not a bad person at all; her behavior is typical of the average parent.

The White Seal (distrbuted by FHE in the 80's) was awesome! It was about the seal clubbings that were making the news back then. It was so sad but had a happy ending with the baby seal (main character) finding a "magical" place to live away from humans. It might be hard to find now and I have no idea if they even put it on dvd but well worth looking for.

Charlottes Web, though the book was much better.

Watership Down, its pretty graphic for a kids cartoon but I saw it when I was 5 or so and loved it, but I did cry alot.

Are you talking about the original or Disney version of The Little Mermaid?

In the original she commits suicide because she can not bring herself to kill the prince's wife..this was what she had to do to get her voice back.

Theres a film like that?! I MUST SEE IT

I cant think of any films noones listed.

Madagascar really pissed me off, i know its a simple kiddie film but the representation of Zoos at the beginning is awful. the animals get pampered, love being there and love performing... what?!

the farmer in Barnyard is vegan (and theres a brief convo about what a vegan is)... noone ever watch that film though. Ever! On your death bed you'll still be wishing you had those 2 hours back

I was watching this movie with my seven-year-old cousin and she kept asking morbid questions throughout the movie:

"Does Bambi's mother's die?" "When's Bambi mother going to die?" "How does she die?"

I don't think she was scared, just very inquisitive and curious.

I know Charlotte's Web has been mentioned before, but it's worth saying again. That was my favorite book and cartoon as a kid. I really do need to see the new version at some point. I heard there's AR stuff in the DVD extras!!!

Arctic Tale (directed by my cousin Sarah!) is a good global warming awareness movie and it's kid-friendly.

Yep, but I made a mistake above, its the prince she must kill. Its a wonderful adaptation of the original story. It was made in the 80's so it'd probably be pretty hard to find now.

HOLY CRAP I LOVED The White Seal when I was little!

In addition to those already mentioned I like Fern Gully, you learn all about being nice to animals, trees, and the rain forest (and fairies!).

Secret of NHIM is good too, you learn that animal experimentation is bad.

Lastly (crazy cat lady that I am, I have to say it) The Aristocats!

I LOVE the Charlotte's Web movie! They did a great job with it. Everyone loves Finding Nemo, it's so funny. Brother Bear teaches really good lessons about life and cause and effect.

I'm not sure what you think of Dumbo. The movie actually gave me nightmares when I was little, because of the part where Dumbo gets drunk and sees all those crazy clowny "Elephants on parade!" I HATE clowns. But the movie kinda shows what animals go through during the circus, and that they don't necessarily enjoy performing. It obviously doesn't show EVERYTHING. But after seeing that movie when I was 5, I never supported the circus again. I always felt bad that the animals only perform because they are afraid of punishment. It just didn't seem natural to me. My friend's mom to us to the circus once when I was 8, and it seemed that way in real life too.

The Iron Giant

The only animal (other than a frisky and wild squirrel) is a deer that is shot by hunters. This scene is used to teach the robot that killing is wrong.
