There's a "celebrity" here Down Under named Peter Brock. He claims to be vegan (as shown in this interview)....

Quote:
Did people deride your decision to become a vegan?

Peter: It was never significant to me what others thoughts that's their business......My wife is also vegan....

Yet......

Quote:
Peter: I like to eat fresh, organic, non processed foods. I love home made pizza using soy products. There's some great 'NOT' products on the Australian market one of them I especially like is called 'NOT BACON'. I also enjoy pasta dishes, tofu dishes, salads, fresh vegetables, fruit and fresh fruit juices.

"Not-Bacon" actually has eggs and/or dairy. Fake vegan celebrity alert!!!

Maybe he's just not aware of it. I mean, veganism is a journey .

Hey, the guy didn't say anything about eating fish!

Maybe he is confused about that meat analogue product. Or maybe its ingredients have changed ... wasn't there a thread once about "products that used to be vegan"?

Not-bacon has never been vegan. I check it regularly, ever since it appeared. Perhaps all the gas fumes from racing cars has done something to him.

I must add, though, he wrote what I believe is a good book on men's health (I think it was him).

Hmm, he said he doesn't cook, maybe his wife buys it for him and she thinks it's vegan! I dunno ... he sounded like a guy with good intentions and a fair understanding of vegan/vegetarian/omni distinctions. He didn't sound fake-on-purpose to me. Maybe he'd appreciate having someone point out his error.

you should try to let him know that he is mistaken, perhaps through writing to the interviewer?

i ate mcdonald's fries, i ate margarine with animal source vitamin D, i even at casein, for some time after becoming vegan. i was always glad that someone let me know i was making a mistake in the products i was choosing. sometimes we jut don't know any better until someone points it out to us!

Somewhere on here I remember someone mentioning Brad Pitt being a vegetarian. The other weekend I read an article about him and the interviewer said he was eating steak during the interview.

I find this to be one of the funniest posts I have ever read, Kurm.

Fake-vegan celebrity alerts.

And I love the title.

I checked the ingredients when at the store tonight (no contest training, mushroom ). It has egg whites and whey (non-rennet).

Don't concern yourself too much about who is vegan and who isn't. Though, at times, it can be comforting to know that your favorite star is. *sigh* Moby, for example.

Hmm, I've never heard Brad Pitt is veg. I think I'd have remembered that. He is against fur though. I think maybe if a celebrity says they're against fur people may assume they're veg also, but that's not always the case.

Oh yeah, Moby rules! In "Jane" magazine once there was a picture of a snack table that Moby was sharing with some other guy he was touring with, David Bowie I think, and it was the funniest combination of health food and junk food. There was like Hemp Granola and bananas and flax bread, and Red Vines and Marshmallow Peeps. It was totaly hilarious!

I can't remember who I saw, but it was on So Graham Norton, and she was talking about going to Crissy Hinde's (lead singer of The Pretenders) house for a vegetarian meal. The person said that Crissy was strict vegetarian, and that she herself was at one time, but is going back. She then looked in the camera, giggled, and said "Sorry, Crissy".

I want to say "Darryl Hannah" but I'm not sure. It was some blonde that I never really liked anyway and I changed the channel right after that.

Maybe we shouldn't call them "fake vegans". Maybe we should call them "V'trenditarians". It just seems more fitting....

Yup. The salmon will ripen in a few weeks. I'll pick them straight off the branch, and enjoy some fresh salmon!
