They don't want to spend a major part of their time and energy on the bee issue.
See, my point is that there is no issue: vegans don't eat honey. Just because someone is doing bigger and better things for animal rights or animal issues doesn't mean that they can dilute or twist the base definition or philosophy to suit their needs and wants and cravings. Vegans don't eat honey. People that eat honey are vegetarians. That's wonderful - vegetarians are doing their part to limit animal suffering too. It's all good.

There is a lot of information that I still am not up on. For example, I am trying to find out if the clothes I wear are non-sweatshop, human-rights friendly. (if someone can PM me a website where I can find out this information, I would LOVE IT) The honey/bee issue is a non-issue for me - I don't eat it or use it in my life. Vegans don't.....

You are saying that on Meet Your Meat it is stated that people who eat honey but identify as vegans care more about issues like anti-pet-cruelty laws and endangered species?

But please enlighten me about the larger and more non-standard issues of veganism that you speak of.
    Sure:
    -animal agriculture generally
    -the fur issue
-the use of animals for wool and leather
    -vivisection

If a person eats honey, but practises every other aspect of veganism, they are close enough to use the vegan label. That's how it is in actual practise.

I read in a PETA magazine that they want all vegans to boycott Canadian maple syrup because of the baby seals being killed, even though the maple syrup companies have nothing to do with the killing of anything. So I guess I can't even use maple syrup as an alternative to honey.

I got that from other vegan/animal rights sources.

Yes, those are other aspects of veganism.

I use neither honey nor agave nectar nor maple syrup. And I've never even wondered about whether I should use any of them. I guess I'm just too damn amazing that way.

    Round and round we go.

I once had a coworker who made a big fuss over the distinction between the definition of a "wire" and the definition of a "cable". He got really upset when others around him used the wrong definition, and he made a point to correct them, and insist that they never repeat their mistake.

Look, until we have a fully vegan world, there will always be some people who call themselves vegan while eating honey. Why can't everyone just accept this as a fact of life and move on?

I think everyone does accept that fact, doesn't stop the non vegan honey eaters being wrong though.
