    Tuno

Ok, I finally tried Tuno..yay..I will admit that it did kind of smell like a cross between cat food and tuna when I opened it, but I didn't let that deture me. I made a good ol' tuno sandwhich with it, and I must admit it tastes pretty darn good! ....I had to order it online though because I can't find it locally, so it was a little bit more expensive, but if you can find it near you I really suggest trying it, i give it a thumbs up!

Oh and I may be a dork but I thought it was so funny because on the side of the can you know how regular tunas say "dolphin safe" well on the Tuno is says "Dolphin and Tuna Safe" hehehe..sorry..I just had to add that

heh heh. so it was the canned variety you tried, then, candycane02? there is a frozen variety, too, i hear.

we tried the canned variety several years ago and were totally horrified by the smell, taste and texture. it was way too fishy smelling/tasting, and left a strange aftertaste in my mouth.

i hear the frozen variety is quite different, so i'd be willing to try it. but even my dog wouldn't touch the canned stuff, and my dog doesn't reject anything!

Let go of my ears; I know what I'm doing.

lol..yeah I had heard a lot of nightmares about some of the canned varieties, but I got this kind because it had good feedback, now I have forgotten what brand it is though..hmm...it didn't taste too fishy to me at all, nor did it smell to fishy. I hate the smell of seafood so if it would have smelt like that I wouldn't have eaten it either! I do hear a lot of good things about the frozen ones though so I am hoping that I will eventually be able to find some where I live, but that is every doubtfull

I've come across 3 varieties of Tuno myself - my favorite is the canned under the Natural Touch label, there's also the frozen variety that comes in a tube (kinda like GimmeLean), which isn't as oily as the canned stuff, but ok. Then I discovered the canned under the Worthington label and found out why so many people seem to hate it so much - now that stuff was nasty! You would think that the Natural Touch & Worthington canned stuff would be the same, but it definately isn't .. I just wonder why this difference does exist... hmmm

Jesus loves me, but i'm getting a restraining order.

OHHHHHHH! That explains it (probably) then! I've always had the Natural Touch brand in a can, and I love it! Of course I've only eaten it in pasta salad, but the smell never grossed me out or anything when I opened the cans.

EVERYONE WHO HATED TUNO, GO BUY THE NATURAL TOUCH KIND!

You can find both canned and frozen tubes of Tuno (as well as a good chicken substitute called Chik-ettes) at nomeat.com. I've only used the frozen Tuno, and I love it! I make "tuna" salad by thawing and draining one tube of Tuno, adding 5 - 6 chopped green onions and a couple of chopped celery stalks, then mixing in Veganaise, and adding freshly ground pepper and LOTS of dill (fresh or a really good quality dried dill). Put in the refrigerator for at least one hour so the flavors can blend. I warm up flour tortillas, put Tuno salad in it, then add torn-up fresh spinach and cilantro. Yum! Check it out!

    Can you dig it?

is this stuff vegan? i used to eat it when i was lacto-ovo but haven't thought to buy it since i recently made the switch to veganism. i used to love it though! it looks vegan to me but i still don't totally trust my own label reading skills. i'm still a n00b i guess. :P

This is the first positive review for tuno I've read -- I've seen it in the stores, but have been afraid. Now maybe I'll try some.

Out of curiosity, I picked this up last week at the store. Still haven't had the opportunity to open it yet. I have the Natural Touch brand, too, so I'm feeling a little more confident in it. I was simply going to dish it out on to some toasted bread, add mustard, and it as a sandwich, just like I used to do with real tuna.
