    Bags, belts and shoes

What kind do you wear? I've been getting canvas tennies, fabric and synthetic type bags, boots and shoes. I feel so bad for the exploitation of the cows. It bothers me to see someone in leather pants. I think, how selfish can they get? I guess they are just unconscious or ignorant or don't care. Sad.

The shoes I wear now are leather. I've had them from before I was a vegetarian, and saw no reason to throw them out (aside from avoiding 'ur vegetarian but u have leather shoez lol' comments). I got them about 3-4 years ago, and they're starting to show their age.

The only canvas shoes I've found in my area are the Chuck Taylor Converse, but they don't fit me well. As much as I'd like to get v*gan shoes, it seems like the only ones I can find that fit me are leather. I wish more quality shoe companies would provide synthetic alternatives.

Online shopping is out. Shoes vary way too much to buy without first trying them on, and the only v*gan shoes I can find locally are either KICKIN RAD SK8R-type with neon flames on the sides or hippie-looking sandals. I'm not looking to impress chicks at the NOFX show; I just want regular-looking shoes without the animal bits.

Vans is the king of mainstream non-leather shoe manufacturers.

Soilman is unsuccessfully trying to suppress peals of laughter. The harder he tries, the more he ends up ROFL.

Sorry luckiecharms. I know it isn't funny, how they make leather; and it isn't funny that you didn't know; but you just struck me as being incomparably funny, the way you didn't know. First paper. Now leather. I'm not sure I even know what is so funny about it.

I hate to even ask. But I'm dying of curiosity. Like, looking at leather, did you wonder where it came from, but not know? Or did it just not occur to you to wonder about it? Maybe you just haven't had time yet, to get around to wondering about it?

Any time a see anything -- I'm always asking where it came from, dying of curiosity to know where it came from. Every little thing I see. That also seems to be the number one question that I hear from children, all the time: mommie, where does xxxx come from? Where does yyyy come from? It is almost as if all children do, all day, is ask that question, about everything they see. I've kept doing it, into adulthood, and made it an adult hobby, despite hearing a lot of "i don't know" growing up, or alternatively, total nonsense stories.

Sorry. I hope I didn't make you too uncomfortable, about your youthfulness. I'm glad to see you are concerned. I'm glad to see that you want to know, and that you care. That is a terrific thing to see in a young person. Something I love seeing.

ShakaHara: Sanskrit for vegetarianism. Shaka=vegetable. Hara=consumption, eating. With perhaps a few exceptions, I think we should be able to live well, without animal husbandry. Both plants and animals need to be fed. Although peas are naturally carnivorous, they can be fed with green manures, turned in cover crops, and composted plant matter; animal matter is not needed.

You'll be very suprised when you learn what they can make with or from animals.

    Like shampoo: some contain keratin(e).
This can be made out of (cow)hair.
