Embarking on the no-fail exercise program!

This week I am embarking on a no-fail exercise program!

I am a stay-at-home mom and my husband used to take the bus to work so I had the car. Well, he just got a new job which starts today, and he is taking the car now (he would have a two hour bus ride w/ three transfers otherwise!). So now I am home without a car, but I do have the stroller and my trusty two feet! I am so excited about this, I live within 45 minutes walk from the grocery store, the library, the park, Old Navy, Barnes & Noble, Babies R Us, and bunches of other places that I used to drive to. I get stir-crazy staying in the house all day, so now I'm pretty much guarranteed to get my daily walk in!

    Hooray for walking!

I have that program too. It's called the bike and get your son from school program. We also bike to the grocery store, the HFS, and the library. The boys don't walk fast enough, so I have a carrier on the back for them and we ride!

All we are saying.... is give peas a chance!

    that's cool!

unfortunately for me, i can't do those things. first, we live too far from most of our grocers and shops (20 to 30 minutes drive to these places). second, the shopping center that we do live near i wouldn't ride or walk to simply because the back roads are narrow and people drive on them like maniacs. i really don't want to die.

but, i always dream of living in a location where i can walk to these things.

Zoebird ~ it frustrates me to no end that the world (or at least the U.S.) is becoming less and less "pedestrian-friendly." I hate having to walk on the shoulder of the road with no sidewalk, especially when I have my boy in the stroller with me. I would so love to live in a small town sometime, with nice sidewalks and quiet streets, and friendly neighbors and everything in walking distance... *sigh*

I've had a great start to my week already though! I walked to Old Navy on Monday and did some clothes shopping, then walked to Barnes and Noble and let Lucas play with the toy trains, then walked home. Tuesday I walked to the Park n Ride and took the bus to my mom's house, spent the day there, and took the bus home. Today I'm planning to walk to the grocery store to pick up a few things. Mandatory walking is great!

I'm getting a Trader Joes within about a 15 minute walk from my apartment. I won't even have to cross the really busy streets Very excited, I am. I've also considered walking to the mall, many a time, but the hot weather this summer was not all that motivating.

Sounds like you are having fun with your new exercise status. I've been struggling with the dark mornings and extra heavy back in school traffic. Got to figure out something new that works for me.
