    Running injury - help!!

I was running on the treadmill and really screwed up the back of my legs and the bottoms of my feet. I'm sure it is because I was running in swimming shoes (those ones you wear in the pool - I was on vacation and decided to buy a cheap pair of those instead of another pair of tennis shoes.. I know, bad idea!) Anyway, I am in COMPLETE pain and cannot walk without wanting to cry. It feels like my muscles ripped in half or something. Does anyone know what I can do to make them better ASAP? Thanks so much in advance!!

Ice, ice ice! Three times a day, 20 minutes on, ten minutes off. Or ten and ten, whatever feels better Also try to stretch the muscle that hurts even if it makes it feel a little bit worse...in the end it might feel a bit better.

stretch, ibprophen (and i hate using that stuff), and alternate heat and cold. also, massage your feet and legs.

Do you think you may have torn or strained something? Maybe a trip to the doctor is in order, just in case. Hope you feel better

Your arches hurt because of the shoes, or lack there of. If you are going to run you should get proper running shoes. The best way to do this is to go to a store that specializes in running shoes so you can be fit properly. Sounds like you need some arch support. I'm guessing your calves problably hurt for the same reason, but if they hurt all over you probably just strained your muscles, if you feel completely better in a day or two you'll know that's all it was, if not you might want to see a doctor. Rest, ice, and a little ibuprofen if you think you need it. Hope you feel better soon

A good stretch for the backs of calves:

Stand with one foot on the ground. Place the ball of the other foot on a curb or stair and gently put weight on it to stretch the back of your calf.

Also, you can lie on your back and stretch your calf by holding a towel by both ends, placing your foot in it and stretching it up to the ceiling.

Hope those help! Just remember to do them gently so you don't pull or tear anything.

I don't think I have an injury. However, sometimes when I go on an extended run (I classify this as more than 5 miles), I get a pain in my right thigh, right where the thigh meets under the buttock. I was wondering if this might be from my gait? Or over-doing it? I finally got some shoes that give me some ankle, and heel support (halleleujah, no more runners' knee) but that cramp/pain feeling still haunts me sometimes. Any ideas, or thoughts? Anyone else have this happen?

Generally, when it does happen to me, it lasts 2-3 days. Climbing stairs does NOT help.

But my hands remember hers, rolling 'round the shaded ferns
Naked arms, her secrets still like songs I'd never learned

It could very well be a torn Achilles Tendon. go to the doctor.
