How many of you here are straightedge? Okay, now from my experience with other message boards let me make something completely clear. I don't want you to tell me your view on what straightedge is, because different people have different opinions on it. The universal "guidelines" of sxe is:
-No drugs/Smoking
-No alcohol
-No premiscuous sex

Some people have different views on what is considered a drug (some do drink caffeine, some don't). I don't really at this moment care what you think it is. The question is do you call yourself straightedge. Simple question, you may not do any of the things above...but not call yourself straightedge...that's not what I'm looking for. Just IF YOU ARE and you call yourself that, let me know...I'm curious to how many of us (teen sxe) there are on the board. Also, include how long you've been edge.

Sorry I will now bitch about the idea behind being a straightedge, please don't take offence to this it's just my opinion. Why, why, and/or why, alrighty -No drugs/Smoking this one is the most elementary to understand, obviously it's for health reasons, but coffee/tea I know a guy who is a hardcore punker who doesn't even eat dark choclate because of caffine? I mean come on wtf why do you want to be that strict, does it bring you Sxe's pleasure, probaly not?
-No alcohol This I really can't figure out I mean sure if you were a one time addict then maybe you should stay away from them, but really whats so wrong with a glass of wine?
-No premiscuous sex this to I don't understand it's basic human nature to want to "mate" why even attempt to bottle up that instict? It's totally counter-productive, if your worried about std's or kid's than there is this great thing called a condom.
I guess I really feel as though this is just a trend that people due to attempt to feel special ,then of course so is punk. Why get the most untalented people around and have them sing/perform music. OH the worst is when people I know who are straightedges then go and listen to the sex pistols, oh god let me just say I'm totally confused how you could be a straightedge and listen to sid vicious? (I hate that guy he was a stupid crackhead)

Je signifie allume wtf vous fait pourquoi veut être que strict, il vous amène le plaisir de Sxe, probaly pas? -Aucun alcool Ce je vraiment ne peux pas je chiffrer moyen sûr si vous étiez un intoxiqué seul alors peut-être vous devez les éviter, mais vraiment ce que si mauvais avec un verre de vin? -Aucun sexe de premiscuous ce je faire pour ne pas comprendre c'est la nature humaine fondamentale pour vouloir "accoupler" pourquoi même pour tenter d'embouteiller ce instict? C'est totalement contre-productif, si votre s'a soucié de std ou gosse qu'il y a cette grande chose a appelé un préservatif. Je je devine vraiment me sent comme si ceci est juste une tendance que le dû de gens pour tenter sentir le spécial, alors bien sûr si est l'encens. Pourquoi obtenir les gens les plus sans talent autour de et les a la musique de chante/exécute. OH le pire est quand les gens je sais que qui est des régles vont alors et écoutent les pistolets de sexe, oh dieu a laissé me viens de dire que je suis totalement confondu comment vous pourriez être une régle et écoute sid vicieux? (Je déteste ce gars il était un drogué au crack stupide)

Okay, according to this description, I am apparently straightedge, heh heh, even though I've never heard of that. Not because I want to "feel special" (RveganR ) but for these reasons:


-Drugs/smoking: because duh they are bad for you. And I don't see any reason to. Why would anyone want to put all those chemicals into their body?

-Alcohol: PS, alcohol is a drug, so it really does fit into the above category. Anyway, I don't drink at all because I don't really see the need to and I don't want to. Alcoholism is also rather big in my family. I do NOT want to be stuck in that mess. In addition recently someone I know ended their life because of alcoholism. He was a good person and never ever meant to become an alcoholic (obviously no one does,) it just crept up on him, and when he drank, he got depressed, and one day he couldn't take it and killed himself. Sad that that has to happen. Sorry, personal story, not really on topic that much. Basically I am just keeping my bases covered by avoiding it altogether.

-Promiscuous sex: Well, I don't know, I guess I just am not into promiscuous sex, dunno what to tell you about that one, heh heh.

-Also no caffeine, at least at the moment. This is because of a ridiculous deal with a friend ha ha but I do feel better without the caffeine in my system, so I think that after this deal is done, I'm still gonna stick to it.

Um, is that what you wanted to know? Oh yeah and how long? Never done any of those things in my life except for the caffeine. That I gave up at the end of February.

Yeah, I am. For me me it's not for health reasons as RveganR says, it's more about not wanting to alter my mind chemically. There's something about that I really don't like, especially considering the way you typically end up after drinking/smoking. No caffeine is more because I feel better without it, I used to down Mountain Dew like a fiend, and it got to the point where I couldn't even sleep at night. As far as sex goes, it's not like abstaining because some almighty god in the sky is spying on you, I think sex should remain special, and the typical masculine attitude of "getting laid" as much as possible doesn't appeal to me. At this point, sex isn't even an option with anyone, but if it were, I would want to be sure that the person I was with was truly someone I wanted to make such an important, personal connection with.

RveganR, i don't consider myself straightedge (even though i haven't done any of that stuff yet, but still ...) and i can see plenty of reasons why you would want to abstain from all that. alcohol or drugs (even caffeine) when used moderately to heavily can do permanent damage on lots of levels, especially if you're young. and some drugs can be dangerous even if used rarely. it's easy to understand that people would want to keep clean and not contaminate their bodies like that. As for the sex issue, condoms aren't always 100% effective. Besides, just because something is in your nature as a human does that mean you should just do it? humans evolved and developed hunting and eating meat, but your username suggests that you abstain from that, right? For people who take it seriously, straightedge is not necessarily a trend, it's a way of staying healthy and protecting your body while at the same time, beating society's stereotypes of (punk) teens.

this has gone on long enough, but i think you get my point?

P.S. listening to a certain kind of music doesn't prove anything about the way you lead your life, you and the artist aren't the same person.
