ps - I think no one really knows how much we need and people can differ. I think the oils AND the flax and all the other good things one eat is what is the magic amount. No one should put all trust in one product, but vary their supply to have a better chance of getting all they need.

How much you need in order to benefit can also depend on what else you're eating. Yes, flax seeds are considered to be exceptionally high in ALA, but they are not the only things that have it. Almost all nuts to varying degrees, most healthy oils (olive, grapeseed, hemp), even crap oils like canola, and leafy greens have small amounts. Also, in general, the less processed the better the ratio.

If you're eating a well balanced diet you're probably fine, and a little extra flax seed here and there can only help. It would be hard to measure exactly how much you need unless, for the sake of the measurement, you cut out all the other sources from your diet... which is just about impossible :P

Yes, I sometimes add some to my smoothies and some of my cooking. No, it is not a miracle food or a supplement that you have to have a specific amount of in order to benefit from. It's just another healthy food.
