Temptation is often one of the hardest things for new vegetarians to overcome....

Most people find it is hardest in the first few weeks but once you get used to eating vegetarian food it should become a whole lot easier. Soon you will find lots of yummy vegetarian foods that you love and will crave instead of meat... Also if there are meat dishes you miss you can easily substitute the meat for a vegetarian option.... for example... meat = tvp/tofu/beans.

Biggest tip would be try and get into cooking a few things..... and experiment!

Congrats on your decision to go veg. We will be here to support you as much as you can.

The biggest tip that I can give you is: learn all you can!

Read as much as you can, online and in books and magazines about vegetarianism, reasons to go veg, nutritional information, environmental information on why vegetarianism is better for the planet and also about the cruelties involved with factory farming.

The more informed you are, the easier it will be to defend your position to your family and people who question you. Just remember to be compassionate for people who don't understand your choices, being a preachy, angry vegetarian doesn't do anyone any good.

If you can find it, please read 'Becoming Vegetarian' by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina. It covers all the basics and then some.

    Good luck!
