    Household shopping nightmares......

Do you have any diet issues to deal w/ in your household? I try to juggle the following, and it can get a little overwhelming sometimes.

There's me. Vegetarian, attempting to be a vegan.

My son: highly sensitive to all dyes, corn syrup, apples and anything w/ salacylates.

My little guy: Just plain picky that's all.

Husband: no condiments, no casseroles. Peppers must never be in a dish w/ tomatoes. No foods of a creamy nature.

We try to avoid starchy foods, but that makes it even more limiting, so we just have them a couple times per week.

It's enough to make the head spin when trying to make a shopping list that makes everyone happy.

Everyone can start dinner off with a nice salad!

I make a variety of healthy vegetarian meals and keep in mind any allergies of those I am serving.

But if anyone (boyfriend, family, or otherwise) complains they want something else, or they don't like it, then they are making dinner for themselves as I'm not paid a second wage for being a short-order cook.

I used to cave into whining and it drove me nuts.

Now my boyfriend eats anything and suddenly isn't the fussy eater he used to be as he's too lazy to cook on his own and he was forced out of his comfort zone to try new things.

    Mission accomplished!

I have quite a challenge as well as I have a varied household! Hubby and I are vegan and he does most of the cooking for us. Easy one! Then there is my omni son who I have to buy food for but do not prepare it and he often eats what we eat so not too bad! Now we get to the children......Colin is vegetarian but extremely picky. He will not eat any animal products except cheese.... and this is pretty much all he wants to eat. Grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese pizza, mac and cheese. I have tried to get him to eat some of the meat substitutes which we enjoy but he tastes it and says he doesn't like it. He refuses to eat tofu in any form also. He does eat mashed potatoes with corn mixed in and seasoned up. He will eat green beans and sometimes will eat baked beans. He does eat fortified cereals with almond milk; he does not like soy milk. He is quite a challenge! Then there is Haley who has a metabolic disorder called PKU which is controlled by a super strict diet so a totally separate meal must be prepared for her. I do feel like a short order cook at every meal!!

    Theres me....Vegetarian but almost vegan,
My vegan teen daughter aged 14,
My omni daughter aged 25 who has a wheat and yeast allergy,
    and my omni hubby.

I cook and eat Vegan with the exception of, I eat the occasional cheese and chocolate. That will go after christmas and I will be completely Vegan.

    Teen eats completely vegan.

Older daughter lives in her own place but comes for dinner once a week.

Omni hub caters for himself if he wants meat.

Its been quite a challenge to cater for the wheat and yeast allergy but I now have some new dinners and they are also vegan

Vegetarian...check.....hey, even vegan..whoo hoo!...no colors..great...CRUD!...corn syrup..grrrrrr. I put it down, move on to the next product..repeat..repeat..repeat. NUTS!!! I don't think most normal people have to do this...lol Oh yea, I never fell into the "normal" catagory, what was I thinking!

when I am eating with my Mom she cant mix the fruits lemon and cherry she gets the hives.

my close friend Bree she is lactose intolerant and cant eat acidy foods and brown foods and drinks make her nauceous (sp).

I have to be careful with who can eat what when I am shopping and cooking.

I live alone but when I was growing up the rule was, "You eat what Mom cooked or you don't eat!"

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Oh I feel a little better about my home situation after reading this!

Me: (Now Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian)No shellfish (prior to vegetarianism), no nuts except for peanuts, almonds, and walnuts, no dried fruit/veggies treated with sulfides, no High Fructose Corn Syrup (for the most part, although I still occasionally buy a sweet with it in it.)

Mom: (Omni) No limes, lemons, oranges, or other citrus fruit in the house at all. Deadly allergy. No cooked tomatoes, no corn or corn products (she doesn't, however, go out of her way to avoid HFCS although she would feel better if she did.), no peppers, no onions, no spicy foods, no foods high in acid. Also no beans, rice, or products derived from/including those things.

Dad: (Omni) No meats raised with antibiotics, otherwise not picky.

Moving back home @ 24 and dealing with Mom's food allergies was one of the most frustrating things I've ever done. I had to completely readjust what and how I ate. Two years latter, I have basically the same thing happening by going veg, but at least its because I want to!
