Coming from a long line of animal adopters (I was in HS before we ever had our first shelter dog), I'd say get rid of your b/f. I'm sorry it wasn't meant to be, but perhaps it wasn't. I have a cat, and if I was told, "Either the cat goes or I do." I'd say, "Pack your bags, the cat was here first." Good luck with everything, I hope it all works out for the best.
