    All Gone Feeling????

I've been having a weird problem. It's not always, but more than once lately. I take taekwondo and I do boxercing classes. Sometimes, the classes are pretty intense. I can do them, actually, I do them pretty durn well for someone my age (42)..lol But, I do get fatigued, very fatigued. Example: Today, by the end of class my arms were shaking, that was this morning, they're still doing it a little. That part may just be because I missed a couple of classes last week because of the pinched nerve in my neck. But the really weird thing that happened was this feeling of being just totally all gone type fatigue this afternoon. I know I hadn't eaten enough today, but I usually get shakey from that, I didn't get shakey. I literally was having trouble lifting my arms to put the groceries away, everything felt so weak and I just couldn't shake the feeling. I ate an apple and tiny peice of pizza after class and a bottle of water after class. I went grocery shopping and felt weak and awful when I got home so I had a bowl of shredded wheat w/ dates, almonds and rice milk. It didn't help. I had a lot of trouble getting dinner together. I ate a decent dinner. I finally started feeling better later after having a snack and a cup of tea tonight.

I do get hypoglycemic sometimes, but this just felt different. What could make this "all gone" feeling? My mom asked me if I was exercising exhaustion and I don't know. I take the class until it's done, just like everyone else.

I might go through the same thing. When i go to the gym, I work it very hard. I usually do about 45 minutes of weight lifting until muscle exhaustion, then I do cardio such as rowing, the elliptical, cycling and running. So, when i'm done i'm done. When I leave and go down the stairs, i often feel like my legs are going to go out from under me. My arms are usually like spaghetti. For me, my muscles have reached exhaustion/fatigue. It will usually last a couple of hours. Is this similar?

It does sound the same. I actually laid flat on the floor and it was wonderful. My dog was very concerned and stuck his big slobbery lips all over my face and tried to pull me up by my hand...lol It just lasted a really long time today.

For me, it's great. I'm too exhausted to be stressed. So good for relaxing me. It's good to push your body hard. I see too many people at the gym that i even wonder why they're there as they don't even break a sweat or their reps are so poor. Nice job.

My only advice is try to eat as many small meals per day as you can, let's say after each meal have a snack (if you are doing that amount of exercise) I used to have the same problem, I play tennis 3 times a week and work out 4. I realised I wasn't consuming enough protein that's why I started drinking protein shakes and having snacks in between meals.

    Hope that helps.

PS: if you are not sleeping enough or you are stressed, that might be a big influence too.

Hey this used to happen to me too in mu jujitsu training. At first I was puzzled because I thought I was in pretty good shape. But then I found out it's the result of being unaccustomed to anaerobic training. You work out at such high intensity that it becomes anaerobic (as opposed to aerobic). When I added some anaerobic elements to my regular workouts, that helped me - e.g. doing sprints instead of running at level speed, lifting weights, etc. Basically anything that's really intense for a short time is anaerobic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaerobic_exercise

I tend to harp on this simply because most people think I'm nuts for specifically going for a high fat diet :P

...But fats play an important role in cell matabolism. Make sure you're getting enough, including saturated, if you are very active. I've only been veggie about a year, but my experimentation has shown me that if I try to cut way down on saturated fats like everyone always suggests, my energy level and physical performance in general begins suffering almost immediately.
