So what books have we been reading lately?
Apart from the various crapulent pieces of crap that I've got to read for my Sociology degree (e.g. The Idea of Social Science, Social Science in Question, Sociological Theory, The Sociological Theory of Social Science) I've been reading: J G Ballard - The Drought Ian McEwan - The Cement...

VB's new look
I hate to be a kill joy, but I don't care for the new look. IMO, It's so....Vista-ish Personally I like a distinctive contrast between header bars and the back ground (like how it looked before) Now it's just a pale green background with slightly darker pale green/grey header bars. ...

Medication - Veg*n friendly?
I've noticed some people have said that they have to take medication which has a gelatin capsule. I haven't checked mine yet as I assumed there was nothing I could do about it, but is it possible to ask your doctor to give you medication that is veg*n friendly? I live in the UK but advice from...

Ok, a few things... I still need to change the images. I need to de-clutter and get rid of some of the extra stuff. I need to work on the colors in a few spots. Contributing Members may see ads for the next few days. Sorry about that! The software is in beta so there are bugs. For...

Anyone have any advice/ideas for transitioning from vegetarian to vegan? I was vegetarian for a year, stopped when I went to school, and now I want to start back again. I never really ate meat when I was "omni" but I stopped calling myself a vegetarian. Anyway, I want to go from ovo-lacto veg...

I just don't understand! [people who support animal cruelty]
Hey there everyone, I don't really know what I am trying to say here but I will give it a shot. I don't understand how everyone can not think the way I do....now I know that sounds extreme, but I supose what I mean is, How can humans turn away from the pain and suffering they cause for...

The Whole Fish Thing...
I'ma vegetarian, and am hopefully transitioning to veganism. For the record I don't eat fish, nor would I, since turning vegetarian. My question is, it's quite an established myth that one can be a vegetarian, and eat fish. Where does this come from? What is the rationale behind it? Is the...

User Picture Thread
Ok, so you can chat about pretty much anything in here (it tends to be comments on other people's pictures though, I've found) HOWEVER. You MUST include a photo of yourself in each post. -Photos CANNOT be recycled (I.e. I can never use the photo I post here again in this thread. From...

The most awesome charity video you’ll ever see
This was just too awesome not to post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1yinqadxuQ It’s a video for onna those “donate a goat to poor people in undeveloped areas” charity things – but it’s in-yer-face hip-hop style. I love that if you go to the actual website to donate a goat (how could you not,...

poll: does faux thanksgiving roast help or frighten when omnis come over?
Can't decide if I want to make a faux meat main dish for thanksgiving or stick with something like stuffed mushroom caps. Don't know if a perceived "blank space" on the plate of no meat is more disappointing or if faux meat will seem too cooky.
