  2. Sticky Thread Important: How to stock your kitchen and pantry once you've removed the animal flesh/products

I thought this would be useful for newbies to the veg*an diet: Let's have a running list of items for the kitchen and pantry. This may be especially useful for those on a food budget who still want to eat well and even be creative in the kitchen. I'll start off with the following: 1. A variety...

  1. Issues grocery shopping or: I wish I didn't know ...

I think this is the right section, because it seems like most people who have been veg*n for a while will have resolved these issues - if not, sorry! I went grocery shopping last night with my mother*, and was horrified by the following things: the meat everywhere, and the amount of crap people...

  2. Transitioning from Veg to Vegan

Anyone have any advice/ideas for transitioning from vegetarian to vegan? I was vegetarian for a year, stopped when I went to school, and now I want to start back again. I never really ate meat when I was "omni" but I stopped calling myself a vegetarian. Anyway, I want to go from ovo-lacto veg to...

  3. Easy Veg Staples?

The biggest thing that scares me about jumping right into vegetarianism is my inability to cook! What are some staples in the veg*n diet that are noob-friendly? Any suggestions would be a tremendous help. Thanks in advance! :D

  4. How long did it take you to lose your taste for

meat? We went to my DH's company picnic on Sunday. They had brisket, sausage, beans and potato salad. I had beans and potato salad, but the sausage looked really good, so I tasted a small bite. :worried: First i had an internal conflict for about 10 minutes. But I wasn't planning on going cold...

  5. One week Vegan!

Today was my one week mark! I am very excited and I feel great. I firmly believe that this is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Which is good, I need that kind of momentum going into Thanksgiving next week.

Well, I really haven't eaten much meat at all in the past couple months, but the fact that I have eaten SOME, really grosses me out. So Friday, I talked to my boyfriend and told him that I am cutting out all meat, and dramatically reducing the amount of other animal products in my diet. I hope to...

  11. Are Meat Substitutes "Cheats"?

I've been having this conversation with a friend of mine (who's an omnivore). She saw some Quorn meatless meatballs in my freezer and said, "Oh, that's so cheating!" Do you agree? I'm not talking about meat substitutes like portobello mushrooms or eggplant, I mean things like Quorn products...

  13. how come the new vegetarians eat meat when they are drunk

How come when a new vegetarian has been drinking and their well meaning friends buy them a meat sandwich and throw it in front of them, they eat it? Is this because they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or are they really "hungry" for the meat. Most people in this situation don't even...

  14. Top Spices for Veg Cooking?

Hello everyone! I really need to stock up on some good spices. It seems like so many recipes call for lots of spices, and I don't typically have all of them. We cook a lot of Latin food, but that's it. Spices are expensive, and I'd prefer not to get a pre-stocked spice rack (they're usually...

  15. Vegan at the roadhouse

I'm a month-old vegan with 18 years of lacto vegetarian practice. Twice a year I get on an old Honda motorbike and ride a bit over 1,000 miles to spend a week with my 80-yr-old dad. With dairy it's easy to stop at any "American" restaurant. I particularly like stainless-steel diners. It can be...

  20. (Sort of) New Veggie - Dining Hall tips?

Hello! So, I'm sort of a new vegetarian. I've been eating vegetarian for the last month, but this isn't first time I've tried to make the switch - it's been off and on for the past 2 1/2 years, or so. This time, though, I've made the connection in my mind between the animals I see in pictures and...
