dresses are $10, jeans $8-$20, shirts $5, compared to some of the others, these are high prices where i live.
Okay that is pretty high, especially since you can get those things for the same price on clearance racks in regular stores. I've noticed that goodwills in larger cities tend to be higher than ones in smaller towns.

Everything in large cities tends to cost more than equivalent items in small towns, with the possible exception of exotic and rare items.

Some of the Goodwills around here sell new, very poorly made furniture sets. Things like jeans cost nearly the same as new, unless you're just looking for something to paint in.

Close Pal of Mine wanted to nose around the thrift stores today and compared to the local ones Goodwill was about double the price..They did have some cool bargains...just not on the clothes.

Yep.
Recently I went to Goodwill in search of kitchen items (I had just moved into a new apartment). A used frying pan I wanted to buy was priced 8 dollars at Goodwill when a new one from Walmart was just a few dollars more. Utensils (such as spatulas and the like) sold for 2 bucks at Goodwill when I was able to pick up brand new ones for the same price or even less.
I like to support Goodwill Industries and recycle, however when doing so is an economic loss to me I find it much harder to do. I'm a disabled grad student on a very tight budget.
I generally consider thrift store purchases to be economically feasible if they are priced at 50% or less of the new price. Goodwill in my area is priced well above that.

I know it's hard living on a budget (I do too)...but you should try not to patronize Walmart. They are a horrible company with many, varied abuses of its employees.

While I do go to Goodwill and shop online via their online auctions I prefer The Salvation Army. They do so much and don't charge outrageous prices for there stuff.
I really love thrift stores that benefit animals those are the best.

I sometimes stop by Goodwill if I happen to be driving by even if I don't need anything, just because I enjoy browsing through everything. My apartments were always second floor with other units all around me and they stayed warm even with the radiators off. I was in shorts and tshirts year long. So when I moved here I didn't have any warm clothes at all. I picked up a bunch of sweaters and layerables there cheap.
About price differences, they can be a lot. Here there are quite a few stores and prices are pretty good. I've looked at the one in the tiny town by my parents cottage though, and things are a lot more. Which is sad. Businesses had started dying as soon as the economy started slowing and unemployment is real bad there now...they could really use the better prices.
