I need a new winter coat. Mine now just isn't warm. Though its all artificial fibers and stuff.. Everyone tells me "Get a down coat, they're really warm" and.. well.. y'know. (My nana's cute tho.. she says "No no dear, they don't HURT the ducks, they just pull out the feathers and let them run around naked.")
Sooo does anyone know of any nice super warm winter coats that don't have down/wool and are not a million dollars? Cause I don't have a million dollars.

I just received this (http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=84809) and it feels like it's going to be soooo warm. It'll be my first winter for it so I can't say for sure. I certainly hope so being that I'm in the north right off of Lake Erie (the wind chill will kill 'ya).

Columbia coats are great for really cold weather. They're expensive, but worth it!

Hmm.. I should add it needs to be easily washed cause of all the animals that I deal with at work.

Columbias are easy to wash. I just throw mine in the washer when it gets dirty- works like a charm and it stays in shape!

I have a bomber jacket, and to me it's really warm. I found it for $10 brand new at a thrift store!

I have the puffball vest and i couldnt even wear it indoors for more than a few minutes cause it made me sweat. I could actually feel my heat being reverberated back to me.
Here is the womens jacket (http://www.patagonia.com/za/PDC?OPTION=PRODUCT&merchant_rn=7385&cgrfnbr=124438&sku=84030). It is patagonia btw, very good brand, worth the money.

fiber filled works just as good as feather filled. They're typically cheaper too.

RC, if you find it hard finding an affordable vegan coat, is purchasing a *used* non-vegan coat ok with you? If that's ok (as it is for some people here), you maybe able to find yourself a thick wool or down-filled coat at a thrift store.
Locally, down filled is cheaper then artifical and I have yet to find a "fake" coat that is as warm as down or a good thick woolen one.

I love that coat Ms.Ruthie B! I wish it came in black. I would like to find a black dressier coat that's not wool or leather or any other animal for that matter - and warm!!

I live in Washington, so I don't put my coats to the "ultimate freeze test". But I've always found snowboard style jackets to be plenty warm. Like others have said, the type Columbia/Convert makes... but they do make some down style ones too, so you have to watch the tags. Towards the end of the cold season the prices get pretty decent. Super cozy & warm, in my experience anyway :).

Last year I bought a winter coat at Costco Wholesale. The brand is Pacific Trail, and it's pretty warm. It was only around $30 I believe. The problem with Costco is that you never know what they're going to have at any given time.
