I know declawing is evil. However, I'd like to adopt an already declawed cat. So far, I haven't had any luck at the humane society. Other places that I should try?

Thanks!

Try petfinder.com you may have better luck there especially since many smaller rescue groups post their animals there.

Go to the advanced search page and you can select a search for only declawed cats. You do have to put in your zip code to check your area, but I got a bunch for my area (Chicago burbs).

Also, do a search for cat shelters in your area. If you live in a relatively urban area chances are several of your local pet suppliers (PetSmart, PetCo, etc.) have adoption clinics on weekends. Many of the cats up for adoption have been previously owned/abandoned and are declawed.

If you can't find a declawed cat, though, it is relatively easy (depending on the cat, I guess) to train a cat not to claw your furniture, if you provide a scratching post for it to use instead. Another alternative that I used when my cats had to stay with my in-laws briefly was "soft-paws". They are little plastic claw-covers that you just slip over your cats claws. They are glued on but just fall right off after a month or two when your cat sheds the outer layer, so you have to redo it every once in awhile, but it's a cheap and friendly solution. This way they can't really do any damage to anything, but they do make a funny clicking sound when they walk with the softpaws on.

Hope this helps!
