I read about The Compact last year around this time and decided to try it out. It was tough at first (mostly just breaking old habits) but now it is easy and I will not go back to my old ways of buying new again!

I participated in 2007 and I can honestly say it just spoke to my soul! At first it WAS difficult but soon it became habit. I buy some new stuff now, but I mostly but things used or get them free from freecycle or craigslist.

Great post! Re-using and buying used is also entertaining and often an adventure for me. We have so many resale shops here in Dallas so it works so well and is really fun to find little hidden treasures. My favorite thing is a clothing shop in the Park Cities (it's our Beverly Hills) where I can find great suits for work that were worn about twice and at "birth" were super expensive! I'm the best dressed at work, even though I usually have to visit the tailor first. There are always some things though that are still new, like panties and bras, hehe:)

Right now I am looking for a dresser to hold my sewing supplies, if anyone in the area knows of a good one I am all ears!!

thanks for posting. it's along the same lines of the things i'm trying to do. it's reminded me to pass the idea along, as well.
