View Full Version : Illinois So long, Rod Blagojevich!

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, and be sure to say hi to George Ryan if you see him.
Will Illinois ever get a governor whom we can respect? Well, at least Blagojevich seems to be gone.
It would be ironic if Barack Obama has done a greater service to the people of Illinois by resigning his seat early than he would have by serving out a full six year term, thus giving Blagojevich the opportunity to get caught red-handed in his corruption (cause by the opportunity to appoint a successor to BHO's Senate seat), and thus getting Blagojevich out of office two years sooner than we'd otherwise have to put up with him. Yes, it's a stretch -- Obama's motives were to become president, not to help expose corruption in Illinois politics -- but it is nonetheless somewhat ironic if one considers the complaints that he wasn't being faithful to the people of Illinois by running for president.

I can't help but think that maybe Obama realized that he couldn't change much in IL with Blago as gov. He can do so much more as president. He may not have intended to give Blago the rope to hang himself with though.

I think this story is sort of funny. I no longer live in Illinois and I've been trying to share with people that a Illinois governor doing something corrupt is as about as surprising to me as grass being green. I would have been more surprised if he wasn't engaging in illegal activity. It's Illinois!

I'm not really sure how this is going to turn out. I was flipping through the radio station yesterday and stopped to listen to Rush for a few minutes. I don't like Rush but he did have a good point. They have recordings of Blagojevich speaking of illegal activities but as far as we know right now they don't have proof that he's actually done anything illegal. So Rush is wondering why they went public with this when they did. I have to think the prosecutor has more than what's been made public so far. But who knows.

I'm not from IL, but my idol is Abraham Lincoln and my best friend on the planet was from Oak Park. I've always been interested in your politics since the Daley years. I am from Jersey, but you people have the gangster contest all sewn up. I thought that Congresscritter from the 80s (long Slavic name beginning with D) was bad -- how many years was he in prison? --and Ryan was pretty bad, but this dude is just over the top. Can't wait for the movie. Really hope Obama et al. come out of this clean (fingers crossed).

thats exactly how i feel about it too....I am from Illinois and am waiting untill i hear what was supposedly said/done... and/or Blagojevich has a press conference and admits it...untill then i am not really intrested in what the other politicians say or whatever...they should be worried about themselves and not Blagojevich.
peace love and happiness

As most people know by now Rod BlagoJevich was Impeached Yesterday...and to me this is an injustice...I am not saying he is innocent by any means...I would need to hear all of the tapes.. before I made a judgement like that...But I am disgusted by the whole process and the rush to judgement esp in the press and that they had made up their minds way before he was even done speaking yesterday...I am also disgusted by the new Gov Pat Quinn...he was really talking up Gov BlagoJevich and about what a wonderful politican he was and supported him and his policies in 2006...but now hes the devil reincarnated...come on....and what really makes me think is Pat Quinn was the Lieutenant Gov...and he had no idea what was going on with BlagoJevich and what he was doing? Come on...he either is sooo oblivious or walks around with his head up his butt...and thats not what the city of Chicago needs in my never to be humble opinion...My Friends think I am nuts...for thinking like this way and many other reasons ..lol...cause of all of us...I am the only one that thinks this way...I hope when he gets his day in court...he gets a channce to clears his name....Its only right... and we all deserve that..

They already made their decision...way before that....so I can understand why he did that....would I have done that...Nope....I would have gone...but they were already calling quinn Gov so he probs thought why bother...I have been tried and convicted in the press whats the point...I still feel for him and the situation and nada will change that.

Whether or not he is guilty his legacy is already set in stone. Its definitely not just him that stinks here; there are a lot of questions about other state level politicians. If all of these things were going on why didnt they say anything?
However, I will never be able to accept the fact that one summer during a severe budget crisis he took a chartered plane to and from Springfield for weeks.
And in general I trust the judgement of Patick Fitzgerald. I think he's done a wonderful and aggressive job.
EDIT: And my issue with Burris is that with full knowledge that there was going to be intense scrutiny he didnt fully answer questions and after the swearing in amended his statements. I'd like to think we're ready to move on, at least on the national stage, but this just keeps dragging thing up and into the major media.

I think its sad to be judged before all the facts are in and his legacy maybe tainted to some but not all...he has helped many and he has many supporters..that being said I am not sure exactly what happened and am anxiously awaiting the proof of what he did...if he did it...Do I agree with all that he has done nope and I agree that It was wasteful to use a chartered plane and not use the gov mansion...but they all make mistakes and I want them all called on it.
Burris ethics are called into question...and I hope the truth comes out with that...(like with all of them)...and if he is guilty of what they said he dewerves to be treated accordingly.

Tell us more about the many he's helped. :p I know he did some good things when he was the governor, but "not judged fairly?" please.

we will have to agree to disagree I guess..and nope when they are all impeached for their wrong doings then it will be fair.

Way to dodge the question by throwing it back on the sins of the others. -2 debate points.
