I need help with this too. :/ My hair is really fine and gets greasy really fast if I don't use a good shampoo... but all the vegan shampoos I've seen are sooooooo expensive.

If you can't find anything inexpensive, you can dilute your shampoo by up to one part of shampoo to eight parts of water, and it will still clean your hair properly. In fact, I find it works much better, since it foams up much more readily, and is easier to distribute. My hair is also very fine, but there's tons of it, and its pretty long now, and I would probably be using a bottle a week if I didn't dilute it first. If your water is alkaline, add some vinegar or lemon juice to preserve the acidity of your shampoo. Shampoos should stay on the acid side, to keep your hair from becoming damaged.

A lot of the chain drugstores carry the cruelty-free brands that I used to only be able to find overpriced at the health and beauty section of Whole Foods or any other HFS. The Walgreen's around me sells JASON and Alba products. They carry Dr. Bronner's soap too ((I have yet to try this stuff, but am meaning to))!
Lately I've also found the same cruelty-free bath/body products being sold at Marshall's and TJ Maxx, tho its obviously hit or miss with places like that. I think I got a bottle of Alba Organics conditioner there for about 4 bucks a while ago, which ain't half bad seeing the same thing would cost at least twice as much at Whole Foods!

I know Lush cosmetics offers a variety of yummy ones. Veganeese and I Love Juicy are my faves :)

I second paisleyjane's recommendation, Lush rocks. I use Gentle Lentil and have about 5 or six bars stocked up. I also love a solid conditioner that Wylde Ivy http://www.wyldeivy.com/ makes, it's the coconut & soy Zoft.

you can get toms of maine shampoo. its vegan and i dont think its to expencive. walmart carrys it in the US and iv found it in health food stores in canada. try Desert Essence organics shampoo. but its more expencive i believe, vegan as well. iv only found it at health food stores but im sure more places carry it. and down under naturals doesnt test on animals. i believe its vegan but im not 100% on it. you can get it at the real canadain superstore in canada. its no more expencive than non-animal friendly shampoo.
hope that helps

I use Jason that I buy at my local megamart, but I'm thinking of making the transition to either LUSH bars, or even more drastically, baking soda and cider vinegar.

i really like alba. it doesn't make my hair too dry or oily. it isn't cheap exactly, around 8-12 a bottle, depending on which type you buy but that isn't horrible either.

in australia there is "organic care" they have 2 types - for normal hair and one for oily i think (i dunno i only buy the normal)
it is made 100% from plant extracts... even the bottle is bio-friendly :D
cheaper than 95% of the other shampoos (i think woolies sell it for just under $4) and actually works better IMO!
this has now made me HATE getting my hair washed in hair salons... knowing what is in the bottle, and going down the drain. you try telling ur hairdresser why u dont want ur hair washed without getting a "omg ur weird" look.

I use Kenra Clarifying shampoo. I think the water is hard here and if I don't use this stuff, my hair is just BLEH.
Anyway, Kenra has NO ANIMAL TESTING on their bottles.

I just found Down Under Natural's "Nude" shampoo. It was just in a regular grocery store.
It says right on the label: plant based, vegan formula. It also says not tested on animals. So, that's perfect :)
I've only been using it for 2 days, but so far, so good! :)

Not sure if these are available anywhere but the UK, but here we have 'Original Source' shampoos and shower gels, which have the Vegan Society logo.
More expensive (but very nice!) are the Faith In Nature shampoos which Oxfam have recently started selling. The seaweed conditioner is wonderful.
My local wholefood co-operative also sells a fragrance free Suma shampoo which are reasonable and you can add essential oils to them if you want a lovely scent.
Marks & Spencer's shampoos and shower gels are cheap and have the BUAV logo but not all are vegan. I was under the impression that BUAV only put their seal of approval on vegan products until I found it on a whole range of products containing Honey and Marks & Spencer's.
Most of these are probably available online if they're not easy to find outside of England, but I'm not sure if they would still be cheap after adding postage and packaging costs.

I like the Bath & Body Works Signature Collection Volumizing Shampoo (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2294320&cp=3176770.3356062&parentPage=family) and Conditioner in Mango Mandarin and it's usually on sale. I know they don't test their finished products on animals, but I'm not sure if it's vegan. I scanned the ingredients and didn't see anything, but I could have missed it. It's usually on sale. Right now it's 2/$10. $5 a bottle isn't bad.
I seriously don't recommend Paul Mitchell for fine hair, it makes my hair SUPER greasy. I just bought some Big Sexy Hair for half price, not sure if it's vegan, but they don't test. I haven't tried it yet.

I <3 it, and it smells sooooooooo good and is 100% vegan!

I use giovani tea tree triple threat shampoo and condition. I started using it because i had really dry scalp but it turned out to be awesome with my hair as well. It makes if soft and gives it a lot of lift.

I use this AMAZING organic/vegan shampoo and conditioner I got from Target. It's called Kiss My Face and I have the everyday use one that smells like Green Tea and Lime. It's about 7 or 8 bucks a bottle, so it's a little pricey, but you can tell it's all-natural and there aren't any parabens or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Most, if not all of the ingredients are organic, and it makes my hair feel really soft but not greasy. :) I highly recommend it!

The Big Sexy Hair shampoo/condition I just bought... LOVE it. Love it. Not sure if it's vegan though.

Yeah. My hair is halfway down my back, I have to use something that de-tangles well. White Rain makes my hair tangle worse.
